reconcile does not use todays date

Paul SchopfPaul Schopf Member ✭✭✭
At one point, I tried to set up data downloads from my bank, and was able to download a qfx file.  But this is very tiresome, and less effective than just bringing up the bank website and manually reconciling my transactions.  But now it appears that I cannot "go back"!  Every time I try to reconcile, the default window shows the date of the last qfx download, not today's date.

This is different from all the other accounts I reconcile, which conveniently start from todays date (I never set up downloads or online banking for these other accounts - they work just fine).  When I edit the account, I see "Connection Type: Web Connect".  I can not stop it.  This is VERY annoying.

I think you are in the mode to reconcile to an online balance. You need to click the Back button to switch back to a paper statement.

The back button does not get Quicken to forget that I ever used "online reconciliation", so every time I try to reconcile, it thinks that my most recent online reconciliation is the only valuable data - and more importantly, it stuffs the date of the last online reconciliation into the date field - even for paper statement reconciliation.   I want Quicken to totally forget that I ever even tried to use a download for this account, and to treat this account as though downloads are not available.
Reconciliation works great for all my other accounts that never used online reconciliation.

You didn't mention which version you were using, but if you go into account Settings, and under the Troubleshooting tab, do you see the button to Deactivate? That will turn off web connect.

I don't know if that will break the memory to always wanting to do an online reconcile, though. But at least it is a start.

I just got around to trying this.   The "Troubleshooting" tab does not offer anything at all - just blank dialog.  I am using 4.4.3 of Quicken 2017

I am investigating this-there used to be a workaround to deactivate, but that has been removed or the trick changed.

There is a workaround to make an un-connected Quicken account from a Web Connect account.
    1. Save a backup of your data file - in case the results are not to your liking.
    2. Create a new account in Quicken, of the same type as the Web Connected one. Don't activate it for downloads.
    3. Move transactions from the old account to the new. Select all transactions in the old account and drag them onto the name of the new account in the sidebar. Remember that Undo will work here if things go wrong.
    4. Delete the old account.
    5. Rename the new account to the old account name.

Thanks for this tip.  It almost worked flawlessly...

When I get to step 3, I am not allowed to move these transactions to the new account.  After trying to go to the earliest transactions (in 2002), I found that If I moved a large number I would get a spinning beachball and nothing seemed to be happening - but activity monitor showed Quicken eating up cpu cycles, and eventually things got moved.

Then I came across a transaction that caused a problem: a split transaction on another account (Account 3) that transferred funds to the (old) account.  I can understand the difficulty here, and I hope that I can get by with not too many of these to handle -- This transaction can be handled by going to the original and modifying the "Transfer to:" account so that it names the new account.  Once I did this, it went right through.

This is a bit of a kludge, but I appreciate the help.  Of course this had to be my most heavily used account with thousands of transactions that are all now "unreconciled".
