Well gobsmack me ... if you close or X out of Quicken it works like before but a clean exit from File > Exit doesn't.   I referenced this entry to find that.   Why hasn't this been fixed yet?    https://getsatisfaction.com/quickencommunity/topics/quicken-2018-windows-automatic-backup-manual-bac...

Thanks    But why if I check for updates within the product - does it not find this 4.3 patch?

I can confirm downloading the mondo patch which resulted in quicken being at R4.4 now ... does solve the exit issue.   Thank you!

That's because apparently this patch release is not "GA" quite yet. (GA = generally available).
Quicken first releases a new patch to the first 5,000 (so I'm told) customers, then stops distribution and waits for feedback. If no showstoppers are reported within a few days, the patch goes GA and your Quicken will bug you about an available update.

I do not rely on "Automatic" anything especially were backups are concerned and that is not just confined to Quicken.  The last thing you should do before exiting Quicken is make a backup and use the option that saves the date in the file name.  The backup files should be saved to at least two usb drives that you rotate using first one drive and then the other, then back to the first.
