In the Investing > Portfolio views, some of the return columns are based on your actual holdings, and some use data downloaded with the quotes. If you go to the glossary at the end of the Help, it has a mostly accurate description of where each column's data comes from and/or how it is computed.

Please tell us the exact names of the columns that appear to be incorrect.

An example would be a stock purchased in June of this year and showing avg annual return YTD of (61.22%). Avg annual return 1 yr, 3 yr and 5 yr all show (61.22%) where no calculation should be possible.

    Aha.

Avg annual return (IRR) is an ANNUALIZED percentage. For an analysis or holding period of less than one year, it assumes that the return will continue at the same rate as it has up to now. If you have held the security for 5 months and its value has changed by 25%, it will show a return of about 25 *12/5 or about 60%.

In previous versions, Quicken would show "N/A" if you did not hold the security at the beginning of the analysis period. Recently it has started showing the result of the IRR calculation, which though technically correct, can be very confusing.

Thanks Jim - I was used to the old N/A designation which I found more accurate.
