File Copy does not work

jtweeksjtweeks Member ✭✭
I am trying to remedy a situation where my reminders are no longer auto posting.  I have tried the file/validate routine and I keep getting the message in the log that "Quicken found a damaged scheduled reminder and removed it."  Even if I run the validation repeatedly.  (Note to Quicken: It would be helpful if the log included the name of the reminder that was supposedly deleted).  Validation found no other errors except for some possible missing stock splits.

Following the recommendation in one of the community's postings I am trying to copy the file using the file/copy routine. When I attempt the file copy I get the message "File NOT copied".

I am currently running Quicken Premier 2019, Version R15.18, Build 27.1.15.18 on a Windows 10 Home 64 bit system

Yes, I reported this as an issue and Quicken stated they could recreate the problem and will work on a solution.  The downside is this does not seem to be impact too many users.  A number of other SuperUsers have not been affected, but alas, I'm in the same boat as you.

Thanks for the reply.  I guess I just have to wait for Quicken to do their thing and continue to process reminders manually.

Can you provide more detail or an example of your reminder issue? Mine are working fine.

All of my auto reminders have the same issue.  When the time comes for the reminder to post based on the due date and the "days in advance" number - the "Auto" in the status column turns red - but does not post even if you end and restart Quicken, or wait several additional days.  I am forced to go in and remove the auto option from the reminder and then manually post the reminder.

Is this an INCOME Reminder or a TRANSFER Reminder - or just a Billing entry ?

Some Billing, some Paycheck, some Transfer.  All fail the same way.

Quicken is working on a solution to this problem, but last reported, they were having some challenges isolating the problem because it only affects a small number of data files. They were looking for affected users to submit sanitized data files for analysis. You might be able to help Quicken solve this issue by using the Report a Problem feature under Help to submit a sanitized version of your data file for review.

Arctic Hare, the OP is describing two separate issues: the file NOT copied is one that Quicken as you stated is working on.  The reminder issue is different and to my knowledge, Quicken dev is not working on.

jtweeks, the auto reminders turning red seems unusual.  I have never seen a color change and may indicate there is a setting problem.  Have you verified the payment account is valid?  It may be a data corruption that validate cannot address, but the red indication I think is telling, just not sure what at this point.

I understand, but using file copy might be necessary to clean up data file corruption that might be causing the other issue.

Agreed, but my legacy file did not experience the issues the OP is experiencing.

Your point is not clear - the bottom line is that Quicken might interested in receiving another sample data file that exhibits the file not copied error. I’ll leave it at that.

    Hello All,

I just wanted to confirm that the "File Not Copied" error is a bug that has been reported to Development for further investigation and resolution.

I was able to replicate this error and have provided Development with a copy of one of my personal data files where this error occurs however, if you also have a file that generates the "File Not Copied" error please use the "Report a Problem" to submit a sanitized copy to assist with debugging this issue. (Help tab > Report a Problem)

The error is specific to the data file so the more examples we can provide Development of files where this issue occurs, will help them find the root cause and solution as quickly as possible and a giant "Thank you!!" in advance to all Users willing to share their file with us.

If submitting a sanitized copy of the data file, please reference Ticket #QWIN-14542 in the subject line or comments section of the submission form.

    Thank you,

    Sarah

I am hoping that once Quicken resolves the "File Not Copied" error - I can perhaps resolve the auto reminder not posting issue.  You are correct that seeing the "Auto" indicator turn red is unusual (and may further signal the problem).  I have been using Quicken for well over 20 years and that is something I have not seen that behavior before.  Perhaps a Quicken specialist can explain the logic that turns that indicator red?

I get an error message "unable to send report to Quicken". Perhaps my data file is too large.

I , too, have encountered the "File Not Copied" problem when trying to solve a different problem, and the DATA_LOG.TXT (from validation) says: "[Sun Dec 02 22:18:18 2018]Copying file e:\Documents\Quicken\XxxxCpy.QDF
    finished copying data resources.
Could not copy record of type 342. DB Error: 1251. File copy failed."
PLUS, I also get "unable to send report to Quicken" when I attempt to "Report a Problem."

The latest release, R16.14, now in staged distribution fixes the issue. It is available for manual installation prior to the general release.

But there is no way to fix a corrupted file correct? Is there a possibility of just removing/renaming the corrupted DB entry so we can identify it and manually fix the issue?

It depends on the type and degree of corruption. Iteratively using File Copy and File Validate can fix some forms of corruption. Other forms of corruption are unfixable.

Trying to use the patch with no luck.  Any way to get a better understanding of what the corruption is?  File passes all validation checks.  I've seen reference to Super Validation, but I'm not sure what that is...

Assuming this is never going to work for my situation, any advice on how to export / import all open investing transactions from one file to another?  Looks like I am going to have to "start over" but I'll need those investment transactions to keep my costs basis correct...

@Stan: I've read back through this thread and I can't see anywhere where you have disclosed which version of Quicken you are running. Could you please disclose the Version information from Help-->About Quicken.

From what I can see, the Original Poster disclosed what version he/she is running, but I don't see your version disclosed in this thread. The version might be relevant to the discussion.

Install, or re-install (as the case may be) the Mondo patch (not the manual patch): https://www.quicken.com/support/update-and-mondo-patch-20182019-release-quicken-windows-subscription-product

Once you have successfully installed the Mondo patch, then retry the File Copy function.
