transaction report: provide separate memo and notes column selections

When the transaction report includes split transactions, I am running into situations where the memo entry is long enough that the important notes information I entered does not display. I want to be able to show the notes information and skip the memo info.

    Mike, what version of Quicken are your running on which operating system? Specifically, which report are you generating (i.e., what menu command do you choose to generate the report)?

    QMac 2018 build 5.5.7. OS 10.13.4. Go to Reports dropdown > New Report > Transaction Report. Then customize report. Select columns. Only a combined "memo/notes" column is in the list of columns available.

    I see. That's because, in the registers, "Memo/Notes" is a single column. Are you possibly confusing that with the "FI Notes" column? In the registers, these are two different columns.

    Unfortunately, they did not include the "FI Notes" column as an option to display in the New Reports. If that's the issue, we can create an IDEA post here to suggest to the dev team that they add the FI Notes column as an option in the New Reports.

    Unfortunately you are correct that memo/notes is a single column in the register, but the memo field is not the same as the notes field in a split transaction. The notes field is specific to a particular line in the splits. In Quicken for Windows this is not a problem when printing transaction reports where split transaction details are picked up. There only the content of the split transaction's notes field entry is used, not what's in the memo field.

    And by the way, what exactly is the "FI Notes" column used for? It is new to me. Thanks

    Not sure how it is in QM2018 but in QM2007, the transaction level memo field is used unless the Show Spilts is chosen in the report; then the split line memo field is used.

    In transaction reports there is no option to "show splits." Split lines are included per se. Then the memo/notes information is shown as memo text : notes text, where the notes text relates specifically to the split entry.

    Mike,

    Sorry I didn't understand what you were saying originally. I do now. This issue of split lines in the New Report > Transaction Report taking on the Note from the transaction's top line instead of that of the split line has been reported and acknowledged by the dev team. Hopefully there will be a fix for that coming soon.

    Regarding the FI Notes column, it is one of three FI columns (the others are FI Payee and FITID) which are (or can be) downloaded from the Financial Institution when a transaction is downloaded from the bank or brokerage. The contents of these fields are up to what the FI decides to transmit. (FITID is FI Transaction ID.)

    Thanks very much for letting me know that this has issue has been acknowledged by the development team and hopefully there will be a fix at some point. And thanks for explaining to me that "FI" stands for financial institution and what goes in those fields is up to what the FI decides to transmit.

    I am having a problem getting "notes" to show up in my reports. When I go to customize report, notes is not showing up as an available option. So if you are getting notes to show, can you tell me what I am doing wrong to not see them? Many thanks.

    @jtengstrom...

    Depends on the report. For the old reports (other than those under "New Report") some do some don't. For those that do, you should see a checkbox at top right to include/exclude the Notes field:

    For the New Reports, the columns are configurable. For those reports, click the Columns button at the top to add the Memo/Notes column:

    Also for the New Reports, you can move, resize and sort by the column just as you can in an account register.

    BTW, in QM2007, when printing a report with split lines, if the split line does NOT contain a memo, the report will use the memo content from the parent record. Just FYI, and consideration for the developers.
