track market value of house canada

MarkhfxMarkhfx Member ✭✭
The Quicken 2019 version promo page says that you can "track the market value of your home" and that it will be continuously updated...  I have the Canadian 2019 Home and Business version which supports this. How do I set it up?

I can answer from the perspective of QW 2019 HBR for the US market - perhaps they are the same or similar in this regard.

If you currently have a house account, you can right click on the account name in the "accounts" bar. In the "account details" popup, you will find address fields to complete, a checkbox to "use zestimate by zillow"  and the "Check for Updates" button to set this up.  See image 1.

If you do not have a house account, create one and work your way through the "add house" setup wizard.  You will come to a dialog where you can choose "get an estimate by Zillow", then click the "get Zestimate" button.  See Image 2.  Of course you will have to enter your full address as well.

Once setup, you can periodically update the Zestimate but clicking on the account in the account bar and in the register's top header you will find an "check for updated Zestimate" button to press. See Image 3.  By doing so, you can see what Zillow thinks of your home's value and you can accept and update your home value in the register, or not.

I don't remember, but you may have to also setup an account with Zillow, especially if you want to "update your property information".

    Hope this gets you started.

The Canadian version does not support Zillow. I wonder if this an example of where the US marketing is erroneously used for the Canadian version when the features aren’t actually supported... there are several cases of such.

It seems so!  CA marketing page below.

For the sake of non-Canadian users, none of the content highlighted in yellow in the screen shot above exist in the Canadian version. Those fields are simply not part of the dialogue box in the Canadian version. There is no place to enter a property address and no reference to Zillow in the Canadian version.

Thanks to those who answered. This is very frustrating as I expected this to be available as it was on the Canadian web page as noted above. @quicken this is very deceptive

I just played around with asset accounts a bit more and made an interesting discovery. When I view the Account Details dialogue box for my house account that has been in Quicken for several years, there are no fields to enter a home address; however, if I create a brand new "house" asset, the fields to enter a Canadian home address (with province and postal code fields) does appear - interesting. My actual house account (not the new test one) is self-identified as simply an "asset" account type, whereas the new one is self-identified as a "house" type account. This causes me to guess that Quicken introduced the house type asset account at some point since I created the more generic account (or, I goofed and picked "asset" not "house").

Regardless of the above revelation (specific to my situation), even when creating a brand new house asset account, even though one can enter the address (I am correcting myself here), one can't enter the size (square footage), nor can one use Zillow. So, there is no automated update of house value, which is the thrust of this thread.

    Hello Markhfx,

My name is Sarah and I am a Moderator in the Quicken Community and an Official Representative of Quicken and the Quicken Support teams.  We appreciate your taking the time to share this concern with the Community and sincerely apologize that the Zillow feature is listed as available in the Quicken for Windows Canada Home & Business product version.

To officially confirm, this information is incorrect, tracking the market value of your home using the "Zillow Zestimate" is a feature only available in the US Quicken for Windows product versions, I apologize.

I have forwarded this experience and the incorrect feature listing in the Product Comparison page to our Senior Leadership and Marketing Staff for further review and correction as quickly as possible.

I absolutely understand how frustrating situations like this can be and attempted to review your account information in our internal database to see if anything further could be done, unfortunately I was not able to locate an account associated with the same email address used for your Community Profile.  Please contact our Support Teams at https://www.quicken.com/support#contact-support so they may look further into this matter and/or to submit a request for a refund.

    Thank you,

    Sarah

I remember reading in October that Zillow was coming to Canada soon:
    https://www.cbc.ca/news/business/zillow-ap-website-canadian-homes-real-estate-listings-1.4864964

A quick tour of the Zillow.com site shows some major Canadian cities with listings so perhaps, in time, this feature might be added to Quicken Canada editions. Please Quicken, let us know ASAP!
