Bill estimator - MAC issues

Can't estimate credit card or utility bills!  Long time Quicken user and converted to MAC a year ago.  I am struggling to understand how to estimate bills like I could on the PC version.  This is a HUGE PROBLEM.  I've called customer service and have been told for a year that this is just not available in the MAC version.  It throws off my cash flow planning for both utility bills and mostly credit card payments.  If I pay my CC off each month, the amount due should adjust as I make more transactions thus adjusting my cash flow.  I am struggling to understand how this is still not in the MAC version as I see it as core functionally.  Does any else agree?  How do we get this on development's radar?  Why would this not be already done?  Sorry, I'll get off my soap box, just really challenged with this.

It is definitely on the developers radar and I'm guessing we're going to see it in the next few months.

Thanks for your response Rick. New to this community. Do they (developers) ever respond or confirm? Is there a roadmap that they share? Reason I ask is a year ago customer support was saying the same thing. It’s been a long year of trying to keep my books straight.

There is no published roadmap and Quicken is generally pretty tight lipped about future plans. SuperUsers here will share what we have gleaned from hints and comments that are occasionally posted. The developers generally don't comment directly on posts here. And I wouldn't put too much credence in what the support folks say. They are very busy putting out fires and (in my opinion) don't monitor future development hints as closely as we do here.

Just so I am clear, are you talking about Quicken estimating your bill balance based on charges in your account register for a credit card? If so, since QMac does not currently automatically maintain the balance of your payment based on the charges in the account, you would have to maintain an estimated balance in the schedule transactions for the next payment due date.

Thanks Smayer97.  I have voted for these.  I guess I am confused on how this isnt available now?  These requests have been in for years, but IMHO, this is a core function of Quicken.  How can they not have already added this?  It boggles my mind.  I'm shocked at how far behind Qmac is from Qpc in what I would expect to be minimum functionality.  The more I think about it the more frustrated i get.  I am sure there is some great explanation as to why they have such an inferior product out in the market and have been unable to add capabilities that have been in QuickenPC for 10+ years.

How about just budgeting for your credit cards or mortgage principal, since they are accounts you transfer from your checking to them. But transfers are not allowed in budgeting. So your comprehensive budget does not include credit card payments or mortgage principal. Really a problem that should have been solved years ago. Makes the MAC version useless hooray budgeting

They plan on eventually adding support for transfers in budgets but there is no timeline offered.

That is a history lesson. QMac2018 is a product that is being rebuild from the ground up and there are hundreds of features to still add back to make it like QM2007 let alone like QWin. And I agree that progress has been much slower than many desire.

Meanwhile, I highly recommend that you browse through the IDEAS section of this forum and VOTE for the request of each of the missing features to be added back into Quicken for Mac....to help direct the priorities of the developers.

Many thanks for the history lesson; i did not know; much appreciated! So I am guessing some people haven't gotten off of QM2007 yet as this is well not up to par....wow!  A solid decade plus.

Estimating scheduled transactions based on previous transaction (which is different from estimating credit card payments) is such a critical functionality.  It's a pretty easy enhancement, and I hope it comes soon!

Thanks for refreshing this thread. Pretty clear to me that Quicken doesn't care at all about us MAC users.  Agree these are easy enhancements and really base functionality for money management but yet we just twiddle our thumbs praying to the Quicken gods to hear us.

I dunno... I tried Quicken Mac a few years back and it was awful, but I find the current version really, really good. I think they've done a great job bringing critical Quicken Windows functionality (I'd been using it for over twenty years!) to the Mac. It resolved some of my more annoying issues -- they really just have to address two or three exceptions:
    (1) The bill estimation feature I reference above (for both credit cards based on balance -- ideally, at a specific close date -- and, for utilities based on average of last n bills).
    (2) Download matching and/or renaming doesn't seem to work very reliably.  Sometimes it matches against really old (and even reconciled) transactions, sometimes it doesn't match at all.  It needs to support greater variability in the amounts, but less variability in the dates -- and it should only match against scheduled transactions.
    (3) Downloaded transaction renaming needs to make use of memo fields to determine the payee... I have several transactions to the same actual payee with unique account numbers that appear in the memo which I want to specify with unique payee names, and it never works.

I'm confident they'll address these soon!

    Andy
