I have a Brokerage, a Stock and a Bond Account. Separate Accounts. Bank Register is not affected. Brokerage has only the Vanguard "Settlement Fund" which uses only the Vanguard Federal MM Fund. No stocks or bonds, only funds.
The Bond Account alone (not certain of all data here) was messed up: decimal points were inconsistently placed. Balances not correct. Also, the Bond account copied the two Stock Funds from the Stock Account, adding to the balance. Stock account is OK and accurate. I downloaded some Bond data from Vanguard and that corrected the decimal error there, but brought a large cash item column (far right) into the Bond numbers. This doubled the account value. I could not make sense of the cash item. The Fed MMF was originally in the Bond Account. It still had the decimal off two place left. Looking back in the Bond Account, it seems it was maintaining the cash record from the beginning of the Account.
I made a separate Brokerage Account and moved the Fed MMF out of the Bond account into the new Brokerage account, hoping (not much) this might help get data to it from Vanguard. If needed. It is not very active. (?) And it was not coped correctly in the Bond Account. I knew no way to correct this.
I have already deleted the first installation and, I hope, its components in Application Support. I was just about to attempt reinstall when I got your message. You have helped me much in the past. I mentioned that I did succeed in reindexing one file (by some fluke, I think.) And of course used this one as the opening file for Q 2019.
Mostly likely, I will just continue with Q 2007, which is working fine now, but ......? The Quick Reports all completed and showed that up to 2012 and 2016, the "Security" entry box had no text. Content and data still accurate. So I did the reindexing after that time, and the indexing went trough. 1? Don't think it made any difference; when I tried to repeat the indexing, it failed. ?
Any suggestions, let me know. Really appreciate your help !! Into the breech .... ?

Ooh... the part about "... when I tried to repeat the indexing, it failed." is usually not a good sign. This suggests you do have a corrupted data file. I have had files where only on the 5th consecutive re-indexing (running it 5 times in a row) did it reveal a failed attempt. So that file is faulty and unstable.
What you can do though is create a new copy by using the Save a Copy feature. This will create a duplicate of the data file by literally reconstructing the file. This will be far more stable.
As for the blank security names, there is a different repair feature for the investment area. This may or may not solve your issues but read this FAQ:
