remove "match to downloaded transaction"

Bill BlackBill Black Member ✭✭
I have the latest Quicken version.  I'm an online customer.  I have a number of transactions that have the little pencil icon on the far left of the transaction that allows you to manually match to a downloaded transaction.  But for most of them, they don't offer a transaction to match.  And the others list transactions that are not appropriate to match.  How do I get rid of that icon or resolve the issue when there's no suitable match?  There doesn't seem to be any way to do so.

AFAIK, the pencil icon in your register view should only show for future - dated transactions that have already been entered into your register.
You cannot match a future - dated transaction to one that has been downloaded from the bank, as it cannot have occurred yet.
You should not record a transaction in your register with a future date, if it's actually occurring earlier. For example, if you write and mail a check today, for a payment due in 10 days, put today's date on the transaction. When the check clears in a few days, the download will match properly.

    Hello Bill,

Are you using the Windows or Mac version?

Are you able to see 2 transactions that do match in the register?

Is it possible that the transactions aren't downloading?

    Let us know!

I am using Windows.  For most, there are no matching transactions.  Some have transactions that are different, not a match.  I download everything, so these came in through a download.

I appreciate your effort to help, but I don't think I understand your post.  All of the transactions in question were downloaded. Not sure if that helps.

I'm having the same problem (Windows, Home, Business & Rental Property (2019, R16.14, Build
27.1.16.14) . The manual "match" dialog box is not finding the match.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Transaction reminder entered but cannot match match to a downloaded transaction.

I have may transactions set to enter automatically into my bank account register.  Frequently, the transaction does not get matched when I do a One Step Update and I'm left with a line in the register with a red pencil icon in the left most column.  If I click on this, I get the option to "match to a downloaded transaction".  However when clicking on this, I get a list of about 5 transactions and the actual transaction is not one of them.

example: I pay a $20 bank fee for my account on the last business day of every month.  This gets auto entered.  If I forget to match the transaction when I do One Step Update, then I try clicking on the transaction to match it manually after the fact.  Quicken then shows me other months of this transaction but (frustratingly) not the month in question.

I have may transactions with this red pencil icon that I cannot make the icon go away because every time I click on "match to a downloaded transactions", Quicken seems to go out of its way to show me transactions OTHER than the one in question, sometimes dating back may years.

    Help.

You may be able to avoid this issue if you set your auto-entered reminders to "enter [1] days before due date" (at least 1 or more days).
And do make sure that the transaction due date is set to occur on or before the bank downloads this transaction.
For example, if you have a reminder set to occur "on last day of month", but the bank decides to charge you early, because last day of month is not a business day, you may run into a problem. Quicken does not have a "last business day of month" setting for transaction due dates. Perhaps setting the transaction to always record on the 28th will get you out of this situation.

    From C. D. Bales:

" ...  I cannot make the icon go away ....".

You can make the icon go away by marking the transaction "cleared" (click in the Cleared Status column, select "Cleared" then Save). If you care about the Posting Date, you can get it from the downloaded transaction and assign it to the manual transaction (right-click the manual transaction, then hold down CTRL while left-clicking "Copy transactions"). Then delete the downloaded transaction.

[The icon will also go away when you reconcile the manual transaction.]

Or you can elect to keep the downloaded transaction and delete the manual transaction.
