QWIN Reports: Default Column Width (13 Merged Votes)
Please change the reporting so that columns are wide enough to read most/all of the data in the report without having to adjust the column widths. i have to adjust the width of EVERY report EVERY time, and it's hugely annoying.
I use a wide screen monitor, and the report takes about 1/3 of the width of my screen, leaving plenty of room to expand every column to read the all the data. It makes no sense to me that I have to manually do this every time a report is run.

Maybe an option to easily switch between the two might be useful.

Another suggestion: use the Report a Problem option on the Quicken Help menu to report this to Quicken. They may not consider it a bug -- although not retaining user-set columns widths seems like it might not be "performing as designed" -- but it's a legitimate problem you face using Quicken. Note that you will not get a reply from Quicken from such a submission... but it has a quicker chance of being passed on to the developers than an idea request here. the more people who report the same thing, the more likely it will catch someone's eye.
Also, taking it one step further, I suggest including a link to this thread when you use the "Report a Problem". This way, they not only look up any additional submissions by other users, but can also reply here if they so choose.

I just checked, and a new report is still very truncated.
I'll try to "report a problem" in the future.
Thanks
Please change what appears to be the default column widths for reports. Even with only 3 columns displayed (see attached screen shot), I must manually adjust one column's width to see all the data for that column.
The ideal would be that all columns are wide enough to read most/all of the data in the report without having to adjust the column widths. I haven't kept specific track of every report I've ever made (been using quicken since the DOS version) so I'll say I have to adjust the width of almost EVERY report almost EVERY time, and it's hugely annoying. Such as, if possible, have a button that when clicked would resize all columns to fit; Microsoft Excel for example has this functionality.
I also submitted this as a problem as
jacobs SuperUser suggested. And, as smayer97 SuperUser
suggested, I entered a link to this thread in that reported problem.
It would be a big improvement if QWin 2019 were to save the column widths along with the other report settings.

If you adjust the widths in a built-in or saved report then close the report without saving it, i don't think the changes should be saved.
I think the poster is referring to the information that the User searches for and is displayed, does not show completely in the Search Columns. It gets cut off. And is only displayed fully, it the line & column is highlighted by the mouse.

All this also applies to the Find and Replace window.
In a similar way, if I move Quicken to a larger screen (I have one connected to the laptop) Quicken does not proportionally scale column widths of registers or anything else. A lot of people these days are using multiple monitors so Quicken should consider catching-up on this.
Perhaps this should be entered as a separate product idea so it will not be lost.
> The lack of ability to save reports with preferred columns displayed and preferred column widths is very annoying.
Totally agree with @TPerk100. Adjusting column widths and not being able to save them is a huge time waster. The sad thing is this issue and other large issues have been around for many years.
I just wish some of these larger issues would get addressed. Rebuilding the Investment Section and the buggy Tax Planner comes to mind.
However, to be fair, I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised that they dumped Microsofts .Net Framework last year. That appears to be a good move as Quicken Support had said in a post that they had noticed Quicken was having more problem issues after Quicken started using the .Net Framework. Quicken does seem to be running with more stability lately and I am thankful they are working on bugs. So, maybe eventually they will get to these larger issues.
Ideally, the width would be set automatically according to the contents of the widest item in a column, and then be adjustable and allowed to be saved to the report by the user.
Since this thread is already designated by product, I'll just say I'm on the latest version.

To help show extra-long category names and/or include the descriptions, it would certainly be nice if there was an option for text in a report field to wrap so that long items do not take up so much horizontal space.

I couldn't disagree more!
It makes no sense to have a report generate where
Account
Description
Memo and
Tag
are all truncated such that they are unreadable without expanding each column, then leaving 5 inches of blank space on each side of this report.
There is simply no benefit to having such narrow columns. Keeping this as the default view is a terrible design choice.
