How to restore Accounts and data after hard drive failure
I
have used Quicken for all banking transactions from 1996 to present. All
transactions have been manually inputted and I have never used the cloud. Up to
2014, QFD backup files were saved a CD disk. After that my backups were saved
to my computer’s hard drive (I know, stupid) which hard drive mechanically
failed 3 months ago. I paid greatly to have the backup files copied (through
October 2018) from the drive’s innards. A new clean copy of Windows 10 was
reinstalled on my new hard drive, along with a re-installation of my 2017 Quicken
Deluxe. I have not found info on how to use the QFD backups on the new
installation of Quicken. I need a step-by-step on how to recreate the Accounts
and the entries there under on the new, unused, re-installation of Quicken.

You want to find the latest backup you had recovered. That sounds like it's around Oct 2018, if so, that is the one you want to restore. From Quicken go File>Backup and Restore>Restore from Backup File.Once you've restored, you will need to decide if/how you recover your missing transactions. Downloads typically only go back 90 days from most financial institutions. That leaves manually entering, or create an adjustment entry to correct the balance for the missing transactions. Then, you should reevaluate your backup process so you don't get caught again. Failures do happen and can be painful. Flash drives are far superior to CD burning and for cost effective.

GeoffG,You are too good! And I thank you for your time and kindness: It worked perfectly! And instantaneously! What a relief. External hard drive will be attached tomorrow. I got lazy and paid the price. But you helped to get out me of it, with a lot a data that is very import to me.By the way, do you know what a data file ending in 'OFXLOG.DAT' means? Is it a Quicken file that I should know about and use? Or was it just something left on the hard drive that recovery data company sent dealing with their recovery? You are getting BIG Karma points for your efforts.0

Therefore, I have the local /Quicken_Files/backup/ folder,
and then the additional prompt for Backups, which I also have on the same hard drive...
BUT..... then every week - I backup my full /MY DOCUMENTS/ folder to alternating 2TB external USB drives.
