Stopped working....unbelievable!  Issues list with this software is now longer than my arm. Why did I buy it?

The only question you've posted to the community I cannot answer. Are you looking for assistance?

There are answers and solutions for my issues. The problem is that they work for a while then stop.....without me doing anything to change things. I don't know how to fix that? Thus my frustration! Thanks for your offer friend. Guess I'm just venting...

With the occasional hiccup from a bank download, you should not be experiencing usability issues. If you can define clearly the problems you are having, would should be able to make you a "happy camper".

It is absolutely related to the bank download. There are likely stray characters coming through that don't show up in the text but definitely mess up the lookup function with respect to memorized payees etc. Again I get back to. How do you fix that when the download isn't being rejected?

In conjunction to the Renaming Rules are Memorized Payees. Have you looked at those? They may need to be cleaned up as well. How are accessing bank downloads?

Memorized payees also stop working. Bank downloads are OK. I have had downloads rejected in Quickbooks but not on Quicken. Different Banks though. The frustration is in being half way through accepting transactions, then when you hit one with a memorized payee or a renaming rule and it doesn't work, the only alternative is to trudge through manually till the end. I would just like to know up front that my bank gave me a crappy file and have it rejected.

Are you using OSU or Update Now, or are you downloading and importing?

When a category does not apply correctly, you go to the register click the category, fix and Save or Accept. The review screen then goes to the next transaction for review. Is this not what you are doing? How many transactions are you downloading that are problematic?
Can you explain more what you are experiencing with Memorized Payees? Do you see multiple instances of the same payee in the list? If so, that is part of the problem.

Yes, that is what I'm doing. My point is that when I get to the first bad one, then I fix it and re-memorize it but when the same one comes up again, in the same download, I have to fix it again. I'm just doing everything manually. No help from the software. Yes, memorized payees do show up in multiple instances, but again, sometimes they do then sometimes they don't? I guess it depends on the download.

If you haven't already, please go to Tools>Memorized Payee List. This is where duplicate payees may need to get deleted. The Renaming Rules may also be failing and need to be deleted as they cannot be edited.
I do not experience the behavior you are describing except for a new payee that may or may not need to be memorized.

I thought that duplicate payees were a function of the software so I never fretted about them. So I delete duplicate payees as a matter of routine when things are acting up. And at the beginning of the year, I got frustrated and deleted all of them(rules included) and started over. I even upgraded to Deluxe thinking that I may have gotten what I paid for with the basic app. On the brighter side (you didn't know I had one) you have me curious to try a few things. I will keep you posted. Thanks for your advice.

I had a thought that may be causing your issues. I've included two snapshots for preference settings that you should check.
Be sure this is unchecked, otherwise you are at the mercy of the bank/credit card.

The only thing that I have ever played around with in "Downloaded Transactions"  was to un check the box "Automatically apply Quickens suggested name to payee" Otherwise, everything is the same.

"Data entry and Quickfill is a different story where I have experimented with some different settings, admittedly not being sure about what I was doing but was desperate. "Automatically memorize new payees" is currently checked. All else is the same.

I know that it DOES NOT remove memorized payees not used in the last 24 months. My payees went all the way back to 2012 before my recent clean out.

I often muse that the software companies give us boxes to check so that we feel in control but they really aren't connected to anything. Cynicism though, while good for the nerves, doesn't solve problems.

I will run it through with your recommended settings and see what happens. Will have to wait for a few transactions to accumulate though for a valid test.

    I really appreciate your help.

"Automatically memorize new payees" is currently checked. That's what I was hoping was the case. If the renaming rules are not perfect, any and all new transactions will get dumped into the Memorized Payee List. Any hope of rational category selection will be lost.
I would suggest taking a hard look at the Memorized Payee List AFTER removing the check mark from Automatically memorize new payees. You only want one, maybe two of the same payee listed, unless you have an unusual situation.

Data came in today. All categories were automatically assigned except for the splits (which is 75% of my dollars). Also, on the memorized payee list under the "type" column the "spl" is now showing up with a red color, indicating a problem. Was able to fix most by removing and starting over. Also, some items were checked for being "locked." I don't need locked items so I removed checked items. Closed list, reopened list and the checks all reappeared. Repeated process two more times and they are now gone. These are typical experiences for me with this app so I have learned to live with it and fix things over and over again. But I must be doing something wrong on the splits. Some of them I could fix by deleting and re-entering but others no. I'm confused by this and it may be a misunderstanding of the setup process on my part. Advice needed here.

Also, when using auto update, the process keeps getting interrupted by a screen asking me for my vault password. This kind of defeats the purpose of "Auto." So is there somewhere in the settings to fix this? The vault passwords are all in and OK.

I also have one bank account that when I try to add it to to auto update, it started asking for my SS#  to set up the account (which was already set up). Why does Quicken need my SS#? Thought user id and password was sufficient to enter a bank account? Is the bank doing this? The other two accounts asked for the SS# as well but I kept repeating the process until it stopped asking for it and they are now OK for auto update. What's up with that?

Thanks for your help guys. Some things are looking better. Any further assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I'm offering a dissenting opinion regarding enabling "Automatically apply Quickens suggested name to payee". This feature uses an internal list that often applies a name from that list which will leave you wondering "How did that happen?"

When it applies a name from the list, it is more often than not, wrong. The saving grace is that most of the time the downloaded name is preserved rather than being usurped by the list so it doesn't happen often. But if you happen to have a frequently downloaded payee that the list reacts to, it will annoy the heck out of you.

Interesting. It sounds like the internal list serves as a safety net to avoid being flooded with multiple payees on the memorized list. Good idea on their part but when there are "hidden" lists out there that we can't see, it can lead to a missed diagnosis of a problem, which can be a real time waster. I have seen this happen on my imports and never knew why (until now), but not to the items that are currently causing problems. On that count, it still could be me.

Thanks for info. I did not know that.
