Currency rates

I use multiple currency accounts. While Quicken's built-in help describes how to update automatically, that feature no longer seems to exist and you can only update manually one by one. Really??  I'm sure the updates used to work fine, including in One Step.

    More details, please.
What do you mean by "update manually one by one"? US or Canadian version?
What version (year and release) and edition level of Quicken are you using?
Except for US and Canadian banks only, Quicken does not support download from other foreign banks.
  • Currently using latest Q Deluxe Year 2019 rev 18.15 under subscription. Have used every Quicken [US] version [for Windows] ever released and still have the line-item data from every bank account (US and UK), savings, pension accounts, stock brokerage accounts, and credit card I've had since the very first install. Currently using it on Windows 10 running in a  Parallels VM on my MacBook Pro running MacOS Mojave V10.14.2.

I've always used online download from my US-based bank and credit card accounts since that capability was first introduced but HSBC US has now stopped allowing this due to some security concerns they say they are looking to address.

Anyway, that's beside the point. Quicken's functionality is in conflict with its own help text which describes how to update currency exchange rates but what it tells you to do doesn't actually exist as current functionality. The only way is to go into Tools | Currency List, then select the currency whose rate versus my default currency (USD) I want to correct, and manually change the exchange rate. It appears all the old automated update capability, including doing it as part of one step update, has been removed (and the help NOT updated).

In One Step Update Settings, have you enabled "Get currency exchange rates"?
When running OSU, that should update all currencies in your Currency List that have a valid Currency Code.
Clicking the "Update" button in the Currency List should perform the same task.
Which currencies are you having problems with and what are their Currency Codes?
Make sure that neither Windows nor Mac OS block outgoing connection attempts by Quicken. Check the Firewall settings and log pages.

    For reference:
The list of valid Currency Codes can be found here:

  • @UKR - I don't see "Get Currency Rates" in the OSU Settings dialog - that's what I was saying earlier - all references to non-manual currency rate updating seem to have disappeared. Also, in my currency list, there is no "Update" button to click on. I'm only dealing with two currencies - USD and GBP. There are no network traffic connection issues - I'm synching with Quicken Cloud, I'm connecting and downloading US credit card and financial institution transactions, it's just not giving me any option to update currency rates. Could you show me a screen grab of where you're seeing the option in the OSR Settings?
  • Thanks Dan! When I lived in the US I recall I used to use Premier but since moving to the UK it didn't seem worth it. But at least that clears up the mystery for me.

Please make sure you have a checkmark at ""Multicurrency support" in Edit / Preferences / Calendar and currency.
That, in turn, should allow you to enable currency download in OSU settings.
I've had this option turned on for so many years, I nearly forgot about it...
