How do I set up a new investment account in Quicken that already has an existing balance?

I don't want to download information from the financial institution and would prefer to enter information manually. I want to enter the name of the security, the number of shares and the price per share as of the last statement date and start the Quicken account from that point. How do I enter the initial information into Quicken?

I don't know the Mac version but you need to add the security first to the Security List. Then did you set up an investment account? Then add a transaction, see if you have ADD SHARES to enter the beginning info.
I'm staying on Quicken 2013 Premier for Windows.
