What is the purpose of the dot before several income categories? Dividend, interest, etc

A number of categories lead of the income section of categories. There is a dot in front of the name: dividend, income, capital gain and so on. Does this designate something different or is it just a prefilled category I could use.

I think this is where John was leading: if you migrated from Quicken 2007, those accounts with the bullets in front of them were imported from Quicken 2007. Looking at the Categories window, the ones that say Unused can likely be deleted. The ones that you used in Quicken 2007 are in use and can't be deleted. But you can probably merge each Quicken 2007 category into the comparable Quicken 2019 category. (Note: I have not done this. Please, please make a backup of your file before you make significant changes, in case something doesn't work as expected!)Quicken Mac Subscription • Quicken user since 19935

Actually, those are underscores, and they indicate that the particular category is defined by, and used by Q itself.Such as, when you record a Dividend transaction, Q records it using _DivInc.I suppose that you can use them ... but it's preferable to leave them alone and let Q use them as intended.

What version of Quicken for Mac, and did you convert from another version? (The current versions of Quicken for Mac don't use any wildcards in their names for investment categories.)0
