A payee has been renamed over multiple transactions; how did this happen?

I'm a long-time user of Quicken for Mac, recently jumped from Quicken 2007 to Quicken Deluxe 2020 and am still learning the differences and new features of the latter.
One of my cash accounts is for actual cash expenses, and has many transactions to which I had assigned the catchall payee "lunch". I recently noticed that all of these have been renamed to use the payee of one specific vendor. I assume this came about as a result of some feature of Quicken renaming rules that I don't understand.
This not a horrible loss, but I would sure rather not shoot myself in the same foot again, when the outcome might have larger consequences.
Any guidance appreciated,

This usually is the result of renaming a downloaded payee. Notice when you go to change the payee, there will be an option to rename existing payees in the field popup.
You didn't give many details, but it sounds like you renamed a more generic payee and had the option selected to rename the older transactions using that Payee.
I can't say for certain if that is the case, so provide more details if it isn't.

Thanks for taking the time and thought to evaluate my question. I'm sure you are right in your assessment, unfortunately I don't recall the exact sequence. I will look more closely at the renaming options. There is much that I don't know about this version of the program.
