How is the Difference figure at top right of Budget window calculated?

Just below the date span in the upper right corner is a figure labeled "Difference." It does not correspond with the figure given under Summary (on the left). How do I understand this?

    You likely have the Summary showing year to date, whereas the Difference at the upper right is for the entire budget year (including months for which you likely have no income/expense transactions.)

    You can click on the drop down carrot in the Summary to change which total you want displayed. If you change to Entire Budget Year, they will match:
