Are you trying to import a OFX file on the Mac not a QFX file?
You should be importing the QFX file.
Even though Quicken Mac "indicates" that it will import a OFX file it really won't.

The difference between a OFX file and a QFX file is some entries that tell it about how to look up the financial institution on the list from Intuit.  Without this you will get the error message you describe.

They really should change the menus/browse not to include OFX any more.  In long past (Quicken Essentials for Mac, and a couple of early "new" Quicken Mac versions) it would import from the "straight OFX file", but this hasn't been the case for quite a long time.

  • Hi Chris,

Yes, I imported an OFX file.

I just wanted to clarify that the same file under the QFX version worked correctly with the Quicken PC.

I did several tests from different bank and no file can be imported into a new MAC file

Did you get that correct (maybe a typo)?  You need to be importing a QFX file.

    What is the financial institution?

Another requirement for this to work is it has to be on the Intuit list (which can be different on the Mac and Windows):

    Mac list:
    https://ofx-prod-filist.intuit.com/qm2400/data/fidir.txt

    Windows list:
    https://ofx-prod-filist.intuit.com/qw2700/data/fidir.txt

At this point I suggest that you contact Quicken support since as far as I can tell you should be able to do this.

Well sorry.  I'm not a Mac guy, so maybe a Mac guy will come in and know something.

  • Thank you very much for your help anyway.

Small question, the lists you were talking about, where should they be?

They are actually loading into Quicken.  They are downloaded periodically and imported into Quicken.  The links I gave above should be the same as what Quicken is using.  In Quicken you can "view" the list by trying to add a new account.  The financial institution information that Quicken has you selecting through, is provided by that file.

I believe you can also see the file on the local disk somewhere, but I don't know where it is exactly is stored on the Mac. For Windows you would search for fidir.txt below:
    C:\ProgramData\Quicken

Hmm.  So a problem with QFX file all along.
