Can I have Quicken without a Subscription

I have used quicken for years and years. I bought a new computer last year and had to upgrade to the starter edition. I only use it as my checkbook but now I'm having to renew. Is there a way to just keep using what I downloaded, rather than having to pay a yearly fee? I don't use/need any of the online features...literally just a checkbook. Can I just cancel my subscription...will my program still work on my computer?

    Yes you can but not the Starter Edition.  It becomes read only if you do not renew.  So you need Deluxe or higher.  in Deluxe if you do not renew you can still enter transactions manually but about 25% of your screen is taken up with a reminder to renew.

    Hi BW_38,
    Per the Quicken Help:
    After your Quicken Membership expires, you will no longer receive updates to the Quicken application. However, you may continue to use the version of Quicken you had at the time your Membership expired to open your data files and, for Quicken Deluxe and above, continue to use Quicken in a manual mode.

    Quicken since Andrew Tobias "Managing Your Money" V-12 (DOS)
    Windows 10 Pro 64 Bit, Core i7
    Quicken Premier Subscription

    Thanks for the quick responses, but which one is accurate?

    volvogirl is correct in that the starter edition becomes read only. You do still have access to all of you previous data.
    Make sense? Didn't mean to confuse the issue.

    @volvogirl's response is accurate.
    @gooddog50's response is incomplete.

    How is it this company gets away with leaving out that a non-removable renewal banner clutters the application if you choose not to renew the subscription? When I called last year to purchase Quicken and specifically asked about continuing Quicken Deluxe without renewing, I was clearly told that I would not be able to download transactions anymore, but that otherwise the app would be the same. Clearly not!

    See these links

    If you don't renew a subscription about 25% of your screen will be taken up with a reminder to renew.

    @BW_38, if you can find a copy of Quicken 2016 or 2017, you can open your data file with either and work manually.

    My Quicken Subscription for Home and Business expired on 4/1/2021. After this, when I open Quicken, I get a message that says the current version on my computer has a patch that is later than my subscription expiration date. It tells me what to do about it and THEN SHUTS DOWN. I followed the instructions by re-installing Quicken and then installing a patch that pre-dates the subscription expiration date. However, when I do that, I still get the same message and it shuts down again.

    This violates Quicken's data access promise! I cannot use the program at all without buying the subscription. Also, there is no support when the subscription expires.

    As a person who has been using Quicken since the 1980s, I am not happy!

    Has anyone else experienced this? If so, did you find a way to make it work again?

    Thank you,

    Robert

    Hi @BW_38 ,

    If you don't pay the Yearly Membership Fee, you will see the advertisements inside of Quicken and that will not stop. If you want to work with Quicken without the advertisements, then you will need to completely uninstall Quicken.

    Once Quicken is uninstalled, install Quicken 2016 or Quicken 2017 which works well with the Quicken Data File, that you were using with Quicken Subscription program.

    Questions?

    If you have the older versions of Quicken, like Quicken 2016  or Quicken 2017, those older versions of Quicken will read and work with the Quicken Data Files from the Subscription program. However, you will need to do a clean install of those programs.

    hi everybody
    about a year ago i upgraded from Quicken 2007 for Mac to Quicken Mac subscription Version 6.2.1 Deluxe (not sure if that is 2017, 18, 19, 20 or what). Of course i knew when i made the change that when my subcsription expired i would lose 1/3 of the screen to a "renewal announcement". But I phoned Quicken before I made that jump, and here's what I think they told me about the actual functionality of an expired program:

    they said that my online banking via Quicken would be disabled. I said that's fine, I never bank online with quicken, or trade stocks or anything like that. What I do, is download my transactions into a .qfx file from my bank's website, and then import them into quicken, without being online with Quicken at all---I'm just importing the .qfx file from my hard drive into quicken. They said that would be possible with an expired program, just being online with the bank in quicken is what would be disabled after expiration.

    so 10 days ago it expired, and now i find that quicken deluxe refuses to import these .qfx files at all because the program is expired. It says: "this feature is not available because your deluxe membership has expired. To import a connected file your membership needs to be renewed"

    Not what I was expecting at all---since i'm not trying to connect thru my bank online at all, i'm just trying to import a file. So, my question is, can anybody shed any light on this? Is there a workaround, or different way to import those transactions without subscribing? Or does "being able to use Quicken without re-subscribing" actually mean going back to entering all transactions manually? :

    p.s. if i do bite the bullet and re-subscribe, quicken has offered me the chance of downgrading to quicken basic at a lower cost. which i'm considering doing since i never use the online banking/investing tools in the higher versions. what say you about the pro's and con's of doing that?

    thanks so much with your help with this.
