Reconciliation Errors

For the last several weeks, I cannot get my bank accounts to reconcile with the downloaded transactions. I have doublechecked that there are no duplicates. The problem is that the online balance you show as being downloaded does not match what is actually in my account. I can doublecheck online and the bank and quicken do not match. In addition, on the odd occasion that I can get it to reconcile, quicken will only clear my transaction and not actually auto reconcile it to the downloaded balance. Very frustrating! What is going on with Quicken these days???

By the way, this is happening on both bank accounts and credit cards.

I am pretty sure it the problem has to do with money that has been transferred into savings goal accounts. For some reason the amounts are coinciding with various savings goal deposits. Definitely a problem!

    Hello @indyram226,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community to tell us about your issue, though I apologize that you are experiencing this.

Could you please provide which version of Quicken you have currently running?

If you haven't already, I suggest you create a copy of your data file in an attempt to rebuild all of the internal lists and database tables. Then, try to Validate your data file in the copied file by following the steps below. However, I do recommend that you also save a backup of your data file first before trying these steps (just in case).
    1. Navigate to the File menu
    2. Select File Operations
    3. Copy...
    4. Leave the presets as is and click OK
    5. Wait for the copy procedure to complete
    6. Select New Copy and click OK                                                                              If Quicken reports an error when creating the Copy file, then hold Ctrl + Shift while you click File > File Operations > Copy. When prompted to "Ignore errors that prevent file copy?" click Yes. Note: Only do this if you receive an error as this may cause some data loss.
    7. Once the newly copied file opens, navigate back to the File menu
    8. Select File Operations
    9. Validate and Repair...
    10. Select Validate file
    11. Click OK
    12. Close the Data Log
    13. Close Quicken (leave it closed for at least 5 secs)
    14. Reopen Quicken and see if the issue persists.
You can also try to Super validate the copied file by holding down the Ctrl + Shift keys on your keyboard while selecting Validate and Repair... (step 9) which will give you the option to Super validate file instead of Validate file.

If this does not resolve the issue, you can either switch back to your original file or restore the backup you saved prior to performing the above troubleshooting instructions (both the original and backup files should remain unaffected by the steps performed in the copied file).

Follow the steps below to switch back to your original file
    1. Click the File menu.
    2. Look near the bottom of the options list.
    3. Select the data file you want to open.

Quicken will list the most recently opened data files, with a checkmark next to the file you are currently viewing.

Let us know how it goes!

I did have to force the saving of the new file. There were several file errors that showed up in the log. That being said, it still will not auto reconcile. It just leaves the transactions in a cleared status. I was able to go and reconcile it manually. Not sure why it won't auto reconcile the file though. Very frustrating.

Also, the downloaded "online balance" is still not showing the online balance that is with my bank. The two numbers used to always be equal. Now they are very different. This has been consistent throughout this problem. Is there some kind of problem Quicken is having downloading bank balances?

I'm see a lot of "can't reconcile" posts lately.  And I think stems from the fact that for some reason the online balance/dates aren't right and people are trying to reconcile to them.

@indyram226 is the connection method for your account Express Web Connect?

For the 3rd time in 4 months I have had to search the ledger for errors spontaneously injected by this software into past reconciled accounts. I did not delete any entries. I did not unreconcile any entries. Last moth I reconciled to the penny - this month (yet again) the opening balance is incorrect and required going back almost 24 months to find the Quicken injected erroneous entries or deletions of past reconciled transactions.
