Did you mean to say "it's not recognizing my new scanner"?
Did you correctly install the new printer's scanner software and test it?
Did you reboot Windows (and restart Quicken) after you were done installing and testing?

printer scanner is working fine. It's at the point in Quicken register that I try to add an attachment to the checking entry that it is still recognizing my old printer only. I'm just unable to figure out where to make that change. I'm on windows 10 home v2004 8/3/20 os build 19041.928

Is the old printer/scanner gone and unplugged?
If so, delete it from Windows Control Panel, both printer and scanner devices.
    Then, in Quicken do:
    • Click File / File Operations / Validate and Repair. Click "Reset Quicken Printer Settings", then click OK.
    • Close and restart Quicken
    • In Quicken click File / Printer Setup / For Printing  and visit all selections as needed
      (a) for Reports,
      (b) for Checks,
      (c) for Invoices [Quicken H&B, RPM users only]
      and define your printer.
That should get your old printer out of the system. And, I hope, Quicken may be able to find your new scanner.
If not, then I don't know. Sorry. Please contact  Quicken Support on the phone during posted hours of operation
