How do I update a closed checking account

I had to close an account for fraud. What is the best way to “update” my account without losing all my old account info? Can I simply change the account number in the details of the account?

You need to deactivate it for downloading, clear out account number, and then reactivate it for downloading.  Note depending on the connection method you might get duplicate transactions that you will have to delete.

sorry for not completely understanding. "add an account" after deactivating the first, or just deactivate my current account, update the account number, then reactivate?

To link an online account to an existing account in Quicken the existing account that account has to first be deactivated to break the link to the old online account.

You can't just update the account number, you should leave the account field blank, Quicken will update it when you reactivate the download link the online account to the existing one in Quicken.  Be sure when you are reactivating that you select to link to the existing account does not create a new account when you get to the dialog that shows your online accounts.
