Downloading bank transactions into pre-existing account

I have been using Quicken since 1993 but have never tried to download banking transactions until now. I had planned to download the transactions into one of the pre-existing checking accounts in my quicken register, however a "new" account was created with the downloaded transactions. I could probably "move" the downloaded transactions into the pre-existing account, but I am certain that is just a work around, not the way it should be done. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for reaching out to the Community with your question.
To download transactions into a pre-existing account, first delete the new account that was previously created by right-clicking the account name and selecting Edit/Delete account, then click Delete account on the bottom-left corner and follow the prompts to complete the deletion.
Once that account has been deleted, you will need to navigate to Tools > Add Account..., search for your Financial Institution name and follow the prompts to connect. Once your account(s) have been found, be sure to link them to the existing account(s) you have already set up in Quicken by using the dropdown menu under the Action column, then select "Link to existing account" and choose which account in Quicken you wish to link the account to (see example below).

If you are switching from manual entry to downloading, you will most likely get a lot of duplicate transactions. You should look at this FAQ on the subject.

I will add that since this FAQ was created it is now possible to delete multiple transactions in the Downloaded Transactions tab.Signature:

@Chris_QPW I just wanted to tell you that your responses are always refreshing. You seem to enjoy what you do on Quicken, and never do I sense a hint that you tire of it. You're pleasant,positive, and informative with never a condescending attitude. I seldom pass a post with "Chris..." on it without reading it. Your respectful attitude is appreciated...keep up the great work! Maybe you'll be CEO one day!
