Merge credit card accounts due to replacement card

Due to fraud activity, I started a replacement credit card in Quicken, I now have 2 accounts for the "same" card. The "new" number synchs, but the data is separate. How can I merge the 2 accounts?

What needs to be done really depends on how they replaced the old card with the new one.

If all they did is change the account number (new online account is identical to the old account) then you can just deactivate the account for downloading, and then do: Tools -> Add Account and go through setting up the connection, and there will be a dialog that lets you link it to the existing account in Quicken.

Note if you first created a new account in Quicken, instead of just linking the old account like above, you can delete the new account and just link up the old one.  @David Terrill it sounds like you are all setup, but I would delete the new account because all it is doing is holding duplicate transactions in it.

If they treated it as a brand new account then you would just deactivate the old account and create a new account for the new credit card.

Be sure to make a backup before doing anything just in case something goes wrong.

followed instructions, never got a dialog box allowing me to link the two accounts. Citibank credit card
Did you deactivate the account before running Tools -> Add Account?

Also, for Citi credit cards are you using Citibank or Citi Cards.  With Citibank you get Express Web Connect. With Citi Cards you can go into the Advanced Options and select Direct Connect which will get you a more reliable connection.  You might get some duplicate transactions when first change over, but then after that it would be better.  You also have to authorize this on the Citi Cards website:

The following would be the dialog that it allows you to link to an existing one on.  I didn't deactivate my account so that is why I can't link it here:

AAA Dollars (US Bank) AGC card services replaced my Master Card with a Visa.

I have activated the new Visa. The MC won't update because of "login error." Quicken has no FI for AAA Visa so I can't even set up downloads. It only offers AAA MC.
Now what do I do to enable the new Visa to download?
  • For my problem, here's what I did on my own. Would appreciate any feedback, if what I did was incorrect or insufficient. 1. Went into Account List to deactivate the "new" card and found that I had to accept transaction that had been synced into that #. 2. Deactivated syncing on the new card. 3. Edited name of "old card" to include the new # so I'd recognize it on my Account List. 3. Reactivated the old card for syncing with the issuing bank and synced. 4. Moved the inactive "new" account to Hidden Accounts and also clicked 2 items about not using the transactions on its register.
All done? Or does anyone have additional suggestions?
