Have you considered a quicken lite?

Many of those who use (or used) quicken do not need all the bells and whistles. Have you considered a version of quicken without the following:
Download capability
Bill Pay
Investment portfolio update
mobile access
web access

Perhaps only charging 1/2 the price of the full product subscription.

I've been using quicken since it was with intuit.
I'm seriously considering restarting my bookkeeping with quicken 2014 because I'm simply not willing to pay the price you ask for features I simply don't use. I'd prefer to keep using quicken 2016 and later options and would be willing to pay $25 to $30 a year for a lite version of quicken. I suspect others might be willing to as well.

If you going to revert to an earlier version of Quicken, you want to go with 2013.  Quicken introduced the Quicken Id with 2014 and you want a version that does not require the QID.

-also older versions as needed for testing

What version do you have now?  If you don't use any online services you can keep using your current version without upgrading or paying any fees.  Unless you have the Starter Edition, that goes into read only mode if you don't renew (at least for current versions, don't know about prior versions).

If you have a version older than 2013 you can get 2013 for free.  I'm staying on 2013.  You can download 2013 Deluxe for free using this how to convert article.  It’s under Converting from Quicken 2004-2009.

FYI - All Quicken versions prior to QW2010 store your data in a series of files all sharing the same filename but with different extensions like - .IDX, .QEL, .QPH & .QDF, and all 4 of those files were rolled into a single-file .QDF in starting in 2010.

For what it is worth, this was tried and dropped years ago.  There was an edition that was basically Starter without any online services.

Thank you all for the comments. I was unaware that the idea had been offered before.

I was using 2016 but had an issue until about a week ago. Regardless of how I try to reload the program I constantly get a blank white screen for the registration/login after opening. I have found zero ways around it (followed all steps from "the creator" posting of 2020).

I can run my last subscription service that ran out on 2021 and use the program, but then you have that annoying panel taking up the screen telling me to renew.

2014 deluxe (with all 2014 updates) does work without a login.

I''m sorry, I wasn't complete in one of my answers. My current version is 2016 deluxe with all the 2016 mondo patches.

I'm afraid you have run into this problem:

Note if you tried this without first updating to the latest version for Quicken 2016, try that first.  Quicken 2016 started with an Intuit Id, it has to be updated to try with a Quicken Id.  But in as you can see from above there is a new roadblock.

Also if you are "staring over" they I would certainly go with Quicken 2013, not Quicken 2016.

I agree, a new road block.

    Why 2013 vs. 2014?
I loaded 2014 and it doesn't ask for any id (intuit or quicken).

Actually Quicken 2014 is "in between". The first versions of it didn't use an Intuit Id, but in later versions they did, and then finally in the last few ones switched to the Quicken Id.

So, you have to stay on the first few versions of Quicken 2014 to avoid this mess.

But there is very little differences in any of the versions of Quicken past Quicken 2013 for people that are aren't using any online service, and as such it is the best one to avoid the whole issue.
