In creating a post, what's the difference between "Ask a Question" vs "Discussion"

Don't understand the difference / when I should click one vs other when creating a post. When is it "Ask a Question" vs "Discussion"

    At least one difference is that if you choose Ask a Question, it allows you to mark and answer as having answered the question and then this answer is shown at the top of the thread. Other than that, I don't think it makes much difference. There may be other subtleties that I'm not aware of though.
