As a result, the Direct Connect and Web Connect (QFX files) connection methods are no longer available. Users will no longer be able to access or use either of these connection methods and will receive an error message when attempting to import a QFX file.

If available at the FI website, you can import a .CSV file into Quicken (if it's correctly formatted):

1. Create a backup prior to importing
2. Steps to import a .csv file to Windows
3. Steps to import a .csv file to Mac

Moving forward, the new supported connection method is Express Web Connect+ (This is known as Quicken Connect in Quicken Classic for Mac).

This change was made by the financial institution, and Quicken must follow the connection methods they provide.

Since these securities are now being shown in the Cash Balance, they are no longer shown as a security. Customers who wish to continue to see these balances as positions can override this to see it as a security. Follow the steps below:

1. Go to Preferences
2. Click on the Download Transactions option on the left side
3. Put a check mark on the option that says Never Interpret downloaded Money Market funds as Cash
   

Note:

1. This setting affects all accounts, not just Fidelity Accounts.
2. This feature doesn't take effect until after the next transactions are downloaded.

Quicken Windows users:

• Quicken Windows users may need to change the Money Market representation if they are not prompted. You can do this by clicking the Cash link in the account or in the Account Details>Online Services Tab, the “Reset Money market securities/cash options to trigger the choice of cash or security again. The cash balance will still be the same that Fidelity reported for the one or more money market securities they have.
  

Note: “Cash Representation” option is only available after switching to Express Web Connect+. Users still on Direct Connect with Fidelity may not see this option.

Quicken Mac users:

• The Money Market security will disappear automatically and be set to cash. Customers whose cash balance is incorrect should perform a reconciliation with the online balance and enter an adjustment to correct the cash balance. From that point on, you will be good to go.

It’s time for my summer letter. Quicken Inc. continues to be both a successful business and a company that works hard to live up to its motto of “Do things right and Do the right thing.” We operate out of our three locations (Menlo Park, CA; Tucson, AZ; Bangalore, India) and support a community of well over 2 million subscribers. It’s been a fun year with several new products recently launched as well as significant enhancements to Quicken Simplifi and Quicken Classic. We’ve also made steady progress on banking connectivity and Customer Care, two areas that matter a lot to our users, and we’re making careful but effective use of AI. I’ll report on all these below.

New Products

Quicken LifeHub has been available for over six months, and I’m pleased to report that we have “struck a chord” with this new offering. LifeHub is a secure, easy-to-use place for users to store life’s essential information, both for estate planning and to help keep a complex family organized on an ongoing basis. We heard the early feedback and responded quickly with a mobile app, easier data entry, and many new items, such as boats and prescriptions. We are committed to continuing to improve LifeHub in the months and years ahead.

Quicken Business & Personal was released at the beginning of the year, and again, we feel like we have struck a chord by providing an inexpensive and easy-to-use mobile/web software tool for individuals who need to manage business activities as part of their financial life. Customers have been particularly appreciative of the invoicing, invoice payments, and client and project tracking capabilities. We’re working to further extend these areas while also adding top-requested functionality such as estimated tax calculations.

Note that we are continuing to support and extend Quicken Classic Business & Personal for the Windows and Mac platforms. For example, we will soon be bringing an end-to-end invoicing system with integrated invoice payments to Quicken Classic Business & Personal for Mac.

Quicken Online Backup is an integrated online backup service for Quicken Classic that we launched in the fall of last year. Some of you may remember the third-party online backup service that Quicken offered in the past: by comparison, the new Quicken Online Backup is faster, more reliable, better integrated, and a lot less expensive! We’re pleased with how this new service is performing and will continue our work to maintain its strong performance.

Quicken Simplifi and Quicken Classic

Quicken Simplifi continues to be the top choice for new users choosing a Quicken product, and we’ve been hard at work to make it even better. Just this month, we released a major update to Spending Plan, Simplifi’s modern, easy-to-use take on budgeting. The update significantly improves the UI and simplifies getting started. Earlier in the year, we made a retirement planner available in Simplifi and also added new capabilities that allow users to export tax data to tax preparation software. This month, we’re releasing persistent reports settings, a much-requested user request, and have added new mobile device widgets for investments. Finally, I mentioned in my last letter that we were introducing an account-to-account funds transfer capability to early access users; we have continued to work on this feature, which now allows transfers to brokerage as well as bank accounts as the next step toward widely deploying this capability.

The Quicken Classic products remain our flagship offerings. On the Windows platform, we have just completed a major upgrade to how memorized transactions and categorization work, including all-new transaction rules and a refreshed user interface. Fellow Quicken Windows users: if you haven’t seen this yet, you’re going to like it! Quicken Mac users now have access to real estate prices through Zillow and modern invoicing for the Business & Personal version. Both products now support Quicken’s built-in Online Backup and will soon be switching to our new Bill Manager services, which will improve bill delivery and payment reliability with bank-grade technology. (A mea culpa here: I personally drove the decision 5 years ago to adopt our current, and then unproven, Bill Manager technology. It was delightfully fast and simple when it worked, but it didn’t work reliably enough. With the changes this year, we will be back on proven technology for these services. I am sorry for the bad choice.)

In Customer Care, we remain focused on providing our Care agents with the right training and tools so that we can field your calls and messages quickly and provide accurate answers. We’re thoughtfully introducing modern AI technologies to improve how we route calls, to assist agents in real time, and to improve the quality of our help content and chatbot sessions. Our goal with AI, as with all the technology we use in Customer Care, is to provide faster, more accurate answers and to offer better Care coverage outside of our standard call center hours.

We are also applying AI technology in several areas within our products. We have been using AI and machine learning for some time to improve the automatic categorization of downloaded transactions. This year, we have applied generative AI technology within Quicken LifeHub with our conversational “Quicken Assist” tool, and more recently with “Smart Add,” which automatically recognizes and auto-enters scanned or photographed documents. More to come across our products!

Lastly, we are continuing our work to improve banking and brokerage downloads. As we migrate more of our connections to Express Web Connect+ (using the OAuth standard), we have seen our download success metrics improve. In Quicken Simplifi and Quicken Business & Personal, we have also expanded the footprint of financial institutions we connect to by working with two additional connectivity technology partners.

As you can see, we have been busy. We recognize that we still have more work to do to fully live up to your expectations, but it has been gratifying to make progress in so many areas.

Vanguard has set the date for this connection cutoff as 2/20/25; unfortunately, in early testing, we discovered issues with the Vanguard authentication process that prevents some users from completing this connection method change. Users may see nothing happen after clicking “Enroll” or may see the error “An error occurred while the digital token access was being processed. Please try again.”

We continue to work with Vanguard to correct this issue with their website, but it has not been resolved. Vanguard has not yet given us an ETA on the resolution, nor have they opted to delay the cutoff date. If you experience this error, you will need to contact Vanguard to report the issue, so they can assist you—the error is generated by the Vanguard site, not Quicken. 

You should contact Vanguard support at 877-662-7447 and ask to speak to someone in their digital banking department.

This issue does not impact Quicken Classic for Windows at this time. We hope that Vanguard will resolve this issue quickly, and our engineers are assisting them in any way possible.

Designed with self-employed professionals and small business owners in mind, the initial release of Business & Personal for Mac encompasses all our Classic for Mac tools and features. It goes even further by incorporating features tailored for small businesses and rentals. Some highlights include:

• Manage and handling multiple businesses & personal finances together with perfect separation
• Get Schedule C, E & F tax reports, profitability, income statement, cash flow, and more
• Store business documents and receipts where you need them
• Track business & personal mileage for tax deductions

It's important to understand that Business & Personal for Mac functions differently than its Windows Business and Personal counterpart. While our Mac team is learning from Quicken Windows's features, our Mac development team plans to expand on business-related features such as including Invoicing, Balance sheets, etc.

Additionally, when upgrading to Business and Personal, it is vital to migrate categories if they are used to track your business income and expense prior to upgrading to Quicken Mac Business & Personal. If you don't use Quicken for your business, you don't need to go through the migration process. To facilitate this process, we've integrated a category migration tool within the product to help ensure accurate tracking of your business finances. This step is crucial for incorporating your business transactions into the new business dashboard and reports. Neglecting this migration could result in an incomplete view, with the dashboard and reports.

Here are some common questions answered:

Q: Are my business finances separate from my personal finances in the software?

A: Yes, you can use report filters to view your business and personal finances in the way that suits you best—whether it's one business, all businesses, or business and personal together or separately, even if income or expenses come from the same account.

Q: Where can I find help to use these new features?

A: We have online product help articles that explain how to set up and use each feature.

The overall process for adding accounts and downloading is the same, but the screen you use to sign in to Wells Fargo in Quicken Classic will look different.

This transition is beginning, though it's not yet live to all users. When available, you will be prompted in your product to make the transition.

This change only impacts Express Web Connect and Quicken Connect account types, not Direct Connect; if you currently use Direct Connect with Wells Fargo to download transactions or pay bills, you will not be prompted to transition.

I wanted to let you know we will begin sending out The Email Digest soon this week. This is a weekly email that automatically sends weekly email messages of your "personalized content" based on the top five categories you follow here on Community. Don't worry, you'll always see the top 5 trending posts even if you're not following anything. You can choose which categories to include or skip in the Digest. And if the Digest isn't your thing, you can easily opt out or adjust your preferences on your Notification Preferences page.

To receive the email digest go to your Community profile by clicking on your profile icon/picture at the top right corner and then select Account and privacy settings (under your name). To the right you will see notification preferences and select that. Towards the bottom you will see the Weekly Email Digest Settings where you can opt in or out.

The email digest delivers the week's top content from the categories you follow into your email inbox once per week.

This is a great way to see what was trending on Community and what you were engaged in as you participate in various discussions. Thanks!

American Express has partnered with Quicken for a faster, more secure connection.

You may receive an email or in-product message about changes coming to your American Express account(s) in Quicken over the next couple of months, so please keep an eye out for more details coming soon. 

You do not have to do anything at this time. When it is time to migrate, you'll be prompted to authorize your accounts in Quicken.

• These are technically cash funds so they will be represented under the cash amount not the actual security in the account
• These funds will show as dividends and not buys and sells as they did in the past.
• They are represented in the HTTP & SYNC LOG as total quantities.
• This is represented as cash.

This new format will reflect after deactivating and reactivating Charles Schwab accounts.

Should be shown as this:

1 Bond = 10 Shares. However, because of a bug Quicken is showing 1 bond = 100 shares(EX 50 Bonds is reflected at 5,000 shares) This is the Adjustment we need to make in the share balance in Quicken

Steps to resolve:

• Review account transactions in Quicken
• Make sure to have the show hidden transactions check box checked by going to: Edit> preferences > Investment Transactions > Show Hidden Transactions
• Go to the register of the account that has the incorrect balance
• Edit the Placeholder transaction to show the correct share balance in BONDS not the total amount of Shares.

(5,000 shares is 50 bonds so you will enter 50 here)

• once you update the bond balance you will have to enter the correct pricing per share for these bonds which will be available on the customer's Charles Schwab web page

To enable access:

1. Log in to Morgan Stanley Online.
2. Go to Security Center in the Services tab.
3. Select Edit next to Third party data sharing.
4. Set your preference to Yes
5. Then click Update.
