My data file is getting larger and larger. My transactions date back to 2011. I went to create a copy of a file, hoping to just choose transactions from 1/1/2023 to present (4/2026). But after choosing that date range I found the copy file function still copies ALL transactions whether reconciled or not. So, the data file is almost the same size as it was before my file copy.

The Quicken AI bot told me that is expected functionality and all the date range choice is doing is affecting the charts/graphs/reports we run. I haven't checked to see if that's true or not.

It seems to me that the functionality should allow us to choose the actual dates of transactions we want to start with in the new copy. That way we could keep the sizes of the data files down and only have the transactions we actually care about.

I would like your feedback and if you like the idea, please vote on my suggestion. 😁

Working on a Windows 11 desktop PC. Every year I like to open a new file, but keep the previous year's file handy for reference. Quicken used to do that, the old files would be in their own space near the bottom of the area where the current files are located. I don't remember what they called it, but basically, it is like archiving a file. I guess I could put those files in My Documents, but it was nice to have it on the Quicken screen until I had no more reasons for accessing it.

Working on a Windows 11 desktop PC. I have been using Quicken for years, but have never truly understood how to approach the backups. But I do save them just in case they are needed.

I am having trouble figuring out which backups to open. Also, I discovered that my Quicken files have been saved in two different places. I have made folders labeled with the year, which should help. I will also probably put all into one location. In the past, I had two years in each folder, but now the current ones are only 2026. I opened a couple of older folders/backups, trying to find the one for 2025, but I am worried I am going to mess things up even worse. Plus, when I close a file, it wants me to save it, but then asks if I want to overwrite the one with the same name. Getting quite confused, don't want to have to re-enter all the data. Hoping someone can help me do this right!

Also, the list of folders used to have two parts - one for current folders, and then down near the bottom were the older ones that I wanted to keep. I guess this is why I am having this trouble, because I don't know where they went.

[Edited Readability]

Sure, it got everything but duplicated many of the transactions and even worse (at least from my point of view) it miscategorized many entries so going back to retrieve a summary of some categories making it nearly impossible to go back and easily see what my real expenses are. I have spent literally days working on unraveling things and it just never ends. Once I clear up on I discover others. I really liked my 2010 Quicken version but it started to give me trouble as the operating system was upgraded necessitating the change to the new Quicken Classic Premier.

I've been running Windows Quicken 2014 for over a decade and was lucky to still run it up to Windows 10 and for some time also on Windows 11 (arm/vm). It was not a pretty scene, but 'doable'. In the past week, all of a sudden, I could not bring Quicken up; it just started for a few seconds and died, no errors - nothing. I suspect that recent Windows updates finally prevented it. I managed to find my previous version 2013, and just for the trial, it got installed just fine and came up without a hitch!! I wondered how this could happen?! However, I got stuck when it prompted me for the backup file (or QDF), which was the one I saved off 2014. I got a message that it is not compatible with this version. I know for a fact that if you upgrade, the program knows how to convert the older version nicely and is ready to go. My question is, is there a way I could get this file to run on my older 2013 version? Any help appreciated.

[Edited-Readability]

However when I opened the copy and checked the history of various accounts including checking/savings etc., transactions that pre-date 1/1/2019 are present in the copy. Old accounts that were closed way before cutoff are still there. This is not how I expected this operation to work. In fact, other than the smaller file size, the content of this file is indistinguishable from the original file. Is this how copy with date range is supposed to work?

I converted from running Q for Windows for 30 years to Quicken Mac in October of 2025.

There were a number of conversion issues / errors I had to resolve . Q for Mac put out an update 10 days ago and the Net worth report that you can run , by quarter , month , year , was significantly off . A number of users have reported same issues and the Quicken Community has responded that there may be Buy transactions , with splits that I would manually need to change to reflect accurate data .

My questions

Did Q for Windows put out a similar update which created errors on reports ?

I know Parallels would let me run a Virtual Machine on my Mac Air and will be able to run Q for Windows . Like to know those who run Parallels on a Mac on those who have converted to go back to Q Windows your thoughts ?

Hello all. I use Quicken Classic at a legal office as an escrow account (most often it is used for real estate transactions), so I don't have the typical categories like groceries, utility bills or the like. Each category is instead a transaction - a purchase, sale, refinance, estate planning, etc. The file was started in 2013, and over the years the file got so large that it was unwieldy, so we started a separate new file.

Since it's an escrow account, it is audited from time to time, and must be reconciled to the penny.

But there are many many categories that still have money in it that I have to disburse. It is an escrow account so the money does not belong to us. Sometimes a buyer or seller or whomever doesn't cash a $2.00 check, so I have to chase them down and get them to cash it. There are many many many of those transactions. When we are audited, each transaction should show that each transaction is $0.00, meaning that all funds are disbursed for that transaction.

So, for the transactions that are not reconciled to $0.00, do I have to copy all the debits and credits to the new file so that they will then reconcile to $0.00 once the checks are all cashed? What's the best way to do this?

I hope all this makes sense!

Cheers,

Sandy

The original discussion of this title was closed, but I seem to be having the same problem, reopening as a new discussion. I have Quicken Classic, now R65.29. Like @Tom Young, I'm not having success smoothly switching between Windows 10 and Windows 11 by means of a backup file. I used to do this with ease when both devices were Windows 10, creating a backup of one, restoring that backup into the second Windows 10 device.

Having one new Windows 11 device, upon restoring a backup from the Windows 10 device finds that the online services for those which aren't Direct Connect become "broken." I'd be OK with it, if I just had to fix them once. However, fixing one account on the Win11 device, the online services for that account were then "broken" on the Win10 device even though I never restored a backup into the Win10 device.

It seems that the secure token that supports something like Express Web Connect+ is valid only to a single operating system, and that only one secure token exists per account. That is, fixing on Win11 overwrites the token that was good for Win10, and vice versa.

If this is true, that I can no longer swap between Win10 and Win11 without having to repeatedly fix online services, I can deal with that until I'm only using Win11 on both devices. It would be helpful to me, and others, to know that we're not going to find an elegant workaround.

Hello:

I have used an old version of Quicken for Windows for years and it has worked for my needs. My reluctance to subscribing to the new version of Quicken is that I don't know if the latest version can read an old data file. I read that I need to use Quicken 2013 to convert my old data file first before it can be read by newer versions of Quicken. My question is: where may I get Quicken 2013 on this website for me to download?

Thanks a lot.

Anu

Hello,
my desktop "Quicken Classic Business & Personal" is running very slow (even knowing my computer is new). I realized I have account records since 2008 and one of the files is about 250MB in size.
Is there a way to archive or reduce the file size (as I do not go back to those old transactions) to improve performance?
Any other suggestions on how to increase performance as any screen move is painfully slow.
Thank you so much,
I can't find effective instructions to connect it to BOA with "Express Web Connect+" and it has no apparent way to import the CSV ot TXT files that BOA still provides.

The following needs to happen:

investment cost-basis transaction data that pre-dates the cutoff date should not be lost as a result of this operation. That is, stock/fund purchases that pre-date the cutoff date should be carried over

Otherwise, it is OK to remove/truncate all other data/closed accounts that pre-date the cutoff date

From what I've read it looks like the cutoff date is a hard-date that would also include investments, is that correct?
