Auto-Backup copies are more than defined in Preferences

Running Q2019 - R15.18 - Win10

Just noticed that the number of auto-backup files being created is more than what is specified in the Quicken --> Edit --> Preferences
Also noticed more than one auto-backup during a software upgrade,
along with extra auto-backups during the software upgrade.
Have not manually deleted any of these files,
as I wanted to see how high it would go - as to what number.

I remember this was discussed not too long ago, for both Q Win and Q Mac. I'm still waiting for the Quicken programmers to fix this problem.

Is it possible that the introduction of the Auto-Backup files created at patch installation, with their different name structure, makes the process fail which counts the number of existing backup files and then deletes excess backups?
I now have a total of 50 backup files, with a setting of 35 in Preferences / Backup.

No worries, the search capability on Get Satisfaction is somewhat sub-optimal (to put it politely) so it’s no surprise you didn’t turn up the threads.

the program is not working as advertised.  once a month i just delete the excess backups.   if i were brave I wouldn't manually delete the excess to  see if the number stops at 99, supposedly the max.

    Just to followup - W10 - Q2019 - R15.18
As I displayed above - all of my settings are at ---> 5
I have not manually deleted any of the backup files.
They are now showing a static count of ---> 12
--> still holding at 12, (even though Prefs are at '5') and rolling off older backup files.

The other little tidbit is that the auto-backup files from the Updates have also rolled off.

Tried another touch - went into the --> Edit --> Prefs --> Backup -->
and reset each number from 5 to 4 - and clicked OK.
Thought maybe it might trigger proper counting.

Have gone thru a couple of end of program auto-backup copies.

NOPE - STILL HAVE 12 COPIES - and the older ones roll off, and newer ones get added.
