automatic category assignments disappeared

Q 20 does not seem to automatically remember categories assigned to specific Payees. I just upgraded today to Version 5.15.3 (Build 515.33035.100) from 2017. Is there some sort of setting I need to turn on? Thanks for your help!

Yes, 2020 now allows for the creation of QuickFill and Renaming rules.
If you are manually entering transactions, make sure you have the option to save QuickFill rule (and choose All fields (i.e. memo) or Category:
