Set Default for Date Range Filter

It drives me crazy that everytime I open a register that all transaction for "ALL DATES" is the default value setting in the register filter. Is there a way to change the default to "This Year" so I only see transaction for the current year. If I want to look back then I can go to the filter. Does anyone know how or if this default value of "ALL DATES" can be changed? I use the Windows Home and Business version R38.29.
