quicken was loaded years ago without a password now it is asking for one and i cant access quicken without it

You don't say which password you are having issues with, but lately we have been seeing issues where a user who never had a data file password is being ask for one.  In this case, Quicken Customer Service might be able to help (remove the password), but if not, your only option is to restore a backup.
