Quicken Classic for Windows
Errors and Troubleshooting (Windows)
I downloaded my Vanguard account but by mistake chose Word to open the file
zcb
Word obviously isn't the correct choice to open a file from Vanguard because it's all giberish. Now it won't let me have a choice where I want the file opened and it defaults to Word. What do I do now?

In Windows 10/11 locate the file in your File Explorer, Right click on it and select Open With > Choose another app
Make sure you click on the tick box next to "Always use this app to open.qfx files", and finally select Quicken from the list of programs
If Quicken doesn't show up in that list you will have to find it manually with the "use another app on this PC" option all the way at the bottom. Quicken should be at C:\Program Files (x86)\Quicken\qw.exe

What is the file type of your downloaded file? CSV, QFX, other?
Check the file type association in both Windows and in your browser and correct it.
For example, for file type QFX in Firefox browser go into Settings, General. Scroll down to Applications.
Locate the entry for Quicken OFX data and set it to "Use Quicken Windows"
If an entry for a specific file type doesn't exist, be sure to have selected the "Ask whether to open or save ..." button. On the next download you'll be prompted for an action.

Thank you for your help. I just tried to get back into Vanguard and I received a notice saying online access is not available at this time. Try later. I logged out and logged back in but still receiving the same message. I'll try again later.
