AMEX reauthorization of closed account

This is extremely annoying. I have an AMEX account that is closed in Quicken and with AMEX but each time I want to updated transactions in Quicken, it asks me to reauthorize the closed account. And the only choice to get past this is select "Remind me next time". This has been going on for months and yet it is still not fixed. If an account is closed in Quicken, its just plain stupid that Quicken is wanting to reauthorize the account.

Is the account really marked closed in Quicken? Not just hidden.
How long ago did you mark the account closed in Quicken? There once was a bug that would mark accounts closed in Quicken, but not properly deactivate it and leave some flags set instead of resetting them.

Validate and Supervalidate your Quicken data file:
First save a backup file prior to performing these steps
    Validate:
    • Click File
    • Select Validate and Repair File...
    • Select Validate File
    • If the data file contains investment accounts also select "Rebuild investing lots". If you suspect that a damaged Quotes Price History causes your problems, also select "Correct investing price history" functions "Delete" or "Repair and Rebuild".
    • Click OK
    • Close the Data Log
    • Close Quicken (leave it closed for about 30 secs)
    • Reopen Quicken and see if the issue persists.
    Super Validate:
    • Click File
    • Press and hold both CTRL and Shift keys while you click Validate and Repair File...
    • Select Supervalidate File
    • Click OK
    • Close the Data Log
    • Close Quicken (leave it closed for about 30 secs)
    • Reopen Quicken and see if the issue persists.
