Using Tilde and Equal signs [when filtering a report by Memo field]

Not sure what happened but i cannot get Tilde or equal sign to work in reports in the memo field.

Syntax I'm using is ~Cash or =Cash to exclude or use cash only in the memo field.

Any ideas?
