Been using Quicken since before 2000. Now the cost has been raised and a demand made that I have to select an existing data file to get started. I went thru this about a week ago. Is this some way for Quicken to extort more of my time plus more money?

    Absolutely … NOT!

You may have missed the announcements, but recently Microsoft changed Windows 10 and 11 OneDrive to actively access files in certain folders like your \Documents folder and its subfolders, to always create a backup on the OneDrive server.
This interferes with Quicken file operations.
Change OneDrive to NOT perform backup operations on the \Documents\Quicken folder and its subfolders.
Or, if you can't do that, Pause OneDrive before you start Quicken and Resume OneDrive when you're done using Quicken.
Or, move the Quicken files to a folder which OneDrive does not process.
