Why aren't matured/called bonds removed from my portfolio?

When a bond matures, my automatic download will process the return of principal and interest paid just fine, however, the bond remains in the account at it's latest value thereby overstating my account by that bond's value. I've taken to using the "Shares Removed" transaction to eliminate the bond value and it's listing in the account. It seems to me this dual entry process should be handled in the transaction's download. Has anyone else had this issue and what is the corrective procedure? Running Classic Deluxe, version R58.9 on Windows 11.

You should be selling the bond at maturity. Another case where you cannot rely on the downloaded data to be correct.

I'll play around with that on a previous maturity. I'll have to delete the downloaded transactions that placed cash in my account. If the results are the same I may simply continue with share removal.

The answer to your title question is "because your brokerage is sending data which is incorrect in Quicken."

@q_lurker is correct. When you open a position with a Buy, you should close it with a Sell. Simple as that.

Quicken user since version 2 for DOS, as of 2025 using QWin Premier (US) on Win10 Pro & Win11 Pro on 2 PCs.
