Curious Account Balance Amount Shows in the Left Nav. Accounts List

Using Canadian Quicken Home and Business on a MacBook using Parallels…. Base Currency is CAD

For several years now, my USD Checking Account shows the Wrong Balance in the Left Nav table! In the Opened A/C register screen, "Actual Balance" = $12,170.66 (USD), "Current Balance" = S12,170.66 (USD), but the Left Nav. "Accounts" List = $4646. The correct answer upon reconciliation is $12170.66 (USD). I've checked the account details many times, and yes, it's set up in USD.

I have accounts in CAD, USD, GBP, EUR, NOK, and their Account Balances are always correct - it's this one account with transactions since 2002 always shows the wrong balance!

Anybody else seen this?

You said, the account's currency is USD and that you use the Canadian version.
Is the exchange rate correct, including the exchange rate history? Any future dated history records in the history (that shouldn't be?)
Is the account defined with the currency listed as USD or is it using a different currency that uses the same currency symbol as the one defined as USD?
Is the account so old that it predated the introduction of currency support in 2004 and defaults to some other currency but the one you use for USD?

In the settings for the Account Sidebar (gear icon in the title line of the sidebar), what is your setting for "Show Current Balance …" or "Show Ending Balance …"?

And, if the setting is "Show Ending Balance", are there any future dated transactions recorded already in that account register? For example, future dated monthly payments which you have already recorded but normally don't see because your account register is filtered to NOT show future dated transactions.

Thanks, UKR, for this suggestion! My setting is "Show Current Balance" and it is correct for every other account but this one! I do have future dated transactions in this and other accounts, and when I toggle to "Show Ending Balance" and it is correct for every other account but this one!

UKR, speaking of scraping the barrel, pour yourself a glass of premium bubbly to celebrate your Sherlock Holmesian sleuthing, before reading further…

In 1992, when I commencing Quicken-ing, I was juggling four versions of Quicken for Mac's, in CAD, USD, GBP, and NOK. Sometime in the last three decades, I seamed together all four versions, including banking, investments, assets, business, ESPP, etc., into one Quicken multi-currency version, but there were threads which remained unseamed, including one settled ESPP realised gains in 2001 and various ESPP dividends into an account later obsoleted. Later as ESPP transactions were formally added to later versions, this realised gain was orphaned, only to become a ghost which reappears whenever the left nav account balance is calculated. I can manually add the amount to the USD chequing account, and the left nav account balance is correct, but the reconciled bank account is wrong. When I manually delete it, the reconciled bank account is right, but the left nav balance is off!!!

It was your probing question about "the account being so old that it predated…" that triggered my global search for the delta between reconciled current balance and left nav current balances which found this orphan. So I've christened it the Halloween Ghost of Quicken Past, and it will haunt me forever…

… the Halloween Ghost of Quicken Past …

Thanks for responding with that explanation. I'm glad you figured out which closet this ghost's hanging in. 😉

Good luck with your use of Quicken. If you have more questions, feel free to start new discussions and we'll see if we can help you again.
