Windows Classic Premier SLOW

I am using Quicken Classic Premier for Windows. I have windows 10 and Quicken Version R60.15 Build 27.1.60.15.

For quite some time Quicken has been taking a long time to load when I start the program. Entering transactions from my downloads is slow and editing older transactions is slow and sometimes the cursor jumps around the page.

My data file is 1.10 GBs. I am a stock trader, and I have several thousand trades in my brokerage accounts. I don't want to have to trim down my transactions to a shorter time frame if it is at all possible. I like to view my performance over a long timeframe.

I have plenty of memory a fast processor along with SSD drives. Is my file size an issue if not what can I do to speed Quicken up?

It is likely the number of transactions in your active investment account is 'too large'. I find that to be in the neighborhood of 10,000 transactions in the account but it can vary based on PC state, and also number of securities and possibly number of lots.

You can look into the "archive" feature for investment accounts - gear icon for the investment account transaction list.

I have not used that feature. I have typically created a new account and used Shares Transferred to 'move' current holding from the old account to the new. This does a Remove Shares from the old and a lot-by-lot Add Shares into the new account. I typically do that on a January 1 date.

Backup your file and try one or both methods to find your preference.

Note both these address the slowness problems within a specific investment account. They will not affect slowness opening in general or if you are seeing slowness in individual non-investment accounts.

Make a backup first in case you don't like results

I would say first step is to use is Archive Transactions from the gear icon top right of the active investment account register.

This is designed specifically for overactive Investment accounts to speed up Quicken.

It creates an Archive Account with old CLOSED positions and the Real account with only Open Positions.

This works for reporting by simply including the new archive account in reporting so you do NOT lose any history
