American Express - Balance issue

Ever since the update that requires Amex authorization I have a consistent issue. The online balance, which I balance to in the register is not the same balance that appears in the account listing (which I have on the left side of the screen. No matter what I do, the balance in the account section is $100 more than the online balance that shows in the register and is showing from the download. Any suggestions about how to get these balances to be the same?

Have you checked to see if the account's Opening Balance transaction still shows the correct amount? It may have been changed by an obscure bug that the programmers haven't got a handle on yet.
If it was changed, edit the OB transaction to the correct amount. Also type the correct amount into the OB transaction's Memo field, for future reference, should the bug come back.

What @UKR said. I have this issue occasionally with my AMEX (Hilton Branded). Not sure what conditions/actions do this but it's always due to the opening balance change, sometimes by quite a bit. If I correct the opening balance, everything is good. However, it will happen again and be off by a different amount. I only have 1 other CC card (Visa) that I use. I don't use it often but it's happened a few times there. I followed UKR's suggestion to put the real opening balance in the memo field (Zero in my case) in both of them so if they're off, I head to the first entry. I've had this AMEX since 2006. Didn't always happen (my current Quicken data goes back to 2001) but can't say when it first showed up.

That fixed the side panel balance, but now the register is not correct by $100. I still think it is a bug that Quicken needs to fix. I have manually balanced my account at various times and it still shows up that way. When I do the download to reconcile at this point it says it is in balance with the Amex website, but my register now shows that I owe $100. So the OB fix just moves the problem from one place to the other. I rather have my register be correct, so I'm changing the OB back to what it was.

This has to be a download/reconcile error in the programming. Quicken needs to review and fix. It only started happening after they changed the way we have to connect to AMEX.

Do you recognize the $100 as a transaction of some kind?

Sometimes I have a bill reminder come up and I enter it a few days in advance. Then when the transaction downloads, if it doesn't match and I miss it, I get a double entry. That throws the totals off.

You said " Ever since the update that requires Amex authorization". If you mean the switch to EWC+, that was some time ago. Have you had this issue that long?

It is not a transaction — when it first started occurring, I went back and manually reconciled the account. It has been happening that long.

Just firing a shot into the dark …

Are or have you been using Savings Goals and could goal transactions be impacting your balance?
