Ungrouped Monthly Transaction Report (Q Mac)

I recently switched from Quicken for Windows to Quicken for Mac. For all the flexibility of the Mac report engine, I can't figure out how to create a single month transaction report without redundant columns.
The built-in "Transactions by Tag" or "Transactions by Month" are very close. But they group the transactions by creating a special column 1. For a single month report this means column 1 is redundant, but it still uses/wastes whitespace, and makes it harder to print (fit) in portrait mode.
I guess I want a report that is "selected by" rather than "grouped by" and which has only 4 columns - date, payee, category, amount, selected by month and tag.
Thanks for any suggestions .

Try the "Transaction by Account" report. Change the "Row" dropdown at the top to "Payee", then right click on one of the column headers to turn off all columns except Category and Date. Next click the Edit button to specify the date range & tags to filter by. The resulting report will be grouped by Payee but will only have the 4 columns you asked for. You could change the Row dropdown to "Category" to have them grouped by category instead; I don't see a way to not have them grouped at all.

The only other option I could come up with was to print a register rather than a report. Format the All Transactions register so that only the Date, Payee, Category, and Amount fields are showing, then use the Dates pulldown at the top to specify the date range. Select the Print command from the File menu and tell it to format as Transaction Detail. You'll still get an extra column on the left indicating Split transactions but it isn't very wide and the transactions aren't grouped in any way. I don't see a way to filter on tags doing it this way, though.

Hello again @Jon I tried both of your suggestions.
Your suggestion #2 is interesting but (as you pointed out) doesn't really work, as my monthly reporting is dependent on tags.
Suggestion #1 is very good. The main difference between it and my current custom report is whether the rows are sorted/grouped by payee or by date. Although I'm used to sorting by date for my monthly reports, perhaps I'll change to by payee.
I should mention that while my current report has one more column than I ideally want, it isn't the end of the world. You can minimize the width of the extra column in the view, and then in the print dialog scale to fit so that all the columns fit in a portrait view.
Thanks for your suggestions. I am still surprised that the reporting engine can handle many use cases - but not one of the simplest! 😀
