Move .QDF File

My current file is in OneDrive/Documents/ss2025.qdf.

I'm not sure I want it to be backed up any longer in OneDrive. I store backups to DropBox.

I want to Cut/paste into WindowsC: / ProgramFiles (x86) / Quicken

Does anyone support this move or is it acceptable to leave it. I've had data corruption issues in the past with OneDrive and really don't want it syncing all the time.

TIA

@wings9798 there should be no problem moving your Quicken data file. But I would recommend moving it to the Documents folder outside of OneDrive -

    WindowsC: / ProgramFiles (x86) /Documents / Quicken

Also just in case, I would not use "cut". Instead use "copy" and when you know that the data file in the new location works, you can then delete the other "old" one.

@wings9798 - I had the directories transposed in my original comment and corrected it. The directory should be "Documents / Quicken". There should already be a Document directory outside of OneDrive so you shouldn't need to create it.

But I think the better thing to do is move your entire Quicken folder to the Documents folder outside of OneDrive. That way you will maintain the files in your Quicken folder.

    Just C:Windows/ Documents / Quicken

    I don’t have C: Windows / Douments

    I have C:Windows / users / name / documents

So add the entire Quicken folder that is in One Drive to the user name document folder. I downloaded everything from one drive. By bringing the folder over will it stop OneDrive syncing?

@wings9798 if the documents folder is outside the OneDrive folder, then yes, any files in the documents folder will not sync.

@wings9798 there is a setting in OneDrive which I have found to make OneDrive work better, especially with Quicken.

If you right-click on any folder in your OneDrive directory, you should see an option "Always keep on this device". If you check this option, the files won't be stored only in the cloud. It will be synced with a copy of the files in the cloud, but the files will remain on your computer.

I use this option for my Quicken folder in OneDrive and have found it works without issue.

But what you are doing is just fine. It is the safest thing to do, in my opinion, to keep the Quicken folder outside of OneDrive. Especially if you are using DropBox for backups.

Thanks for the help. Moved the Quicken folder to users/name/documents everything opened. I was hoping for a little improvement on speed, but my subscription is currently overdue so maybe when I renew that improves.

I did change the file name so I could be sure to locate anything with the new name and move to this folder.

There are several posts & an article that talk about the Quicken data files being corrupted if they are stored in OneDrive, even if you have the "Always keep on this device" option selected. Sometimes the corruption isn't visible when using quicken, but it will cause performance problems. Over time, the corruption will get worse. I personally experienced this problem after running this way for quite a while.

I recommend following the 3rd step ("Third, try Copying and Validating your file") in this article: Quicken Performance Troubleshooting | Quicken. Do this on the file that is not in OneDrive. See if it finds any problems. If it doesn't, you are all set. If it does, follow the instructions to correct them.
