Can't restore from backup file. (Q Mac)

Quicken Mac Subscription Member

I was on vacation for 2 weeks. I opened my quicken for Mac and updated it to the current 8.2 version. Then I was asked if I wanted to start from beginning or from a backup file. I tried to restore from backup but always got and message "An unexpected error occurred while attempting to restore this backup". Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

You shouldn't need to restore from backup, did you try navigating to your Quicken file & opening it directly? The default location for your Quicken file would be /Users/your user name/Library/Application Support/Quicken/Documents.

If the Library folder isn't visible in your home directory then click on the Go menu in Finder then hold down the Option key and Library should appear in the menu.

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately the file is either corrupted or something happened there because when I click on it it opens up but with no accounts, like new user. Is there any other way to restore from the automatic backups? What would be the point of having them if you can't use them to restore? Any help is greatly appreciated .

You probably accidentally created a new empty database. You original is probably still there. Navigate to the bolder indicated by John above and see if you find your original file there. Or open Quicken and click File > Open Recent and try all the files listed there.

If you do need to restore from a backup, navigate to the folder indicated by John and one level up you should find the automatic backups. Try double clicking them in reverse chronological order and hopefully a very recent one will restore successfully.
