Similar tickers causing download issue

I have two securities that are being downloaded, IEFA and EFA. IEFA has a CUSIP, EFA does not and isn't matched to an online security (IEFA is matched).

When I go to Enter Transactions and start typing in the Security Name field for the actual name of EFA, nothing shows in the dropbox. I believe the lack of CUSIP in EFA is causing the issue.

How do I fix this, please?

@kevin. in your Security List, check to see if the EFA fund is hidden. There also could be a duplicate fund set up for EFA. Check the CUSIP column for another fund that has the CUSIP for the EFA fund.

    Thank you for your response.

The CUSIP of EFA is assigned to another ticker, SCZ. The names of the two conflicting securities are off only one letter: iShares MSC EAFE (SCZ) and iShares MSCI EAFE (EFA). MSC vs. MSCI.

Do I change SCZ to be EFA and then re-enter the transactions? There are only 14 and 11 so it wouldn't take too long.

I have a lot of securities without a CUSIP, ones I entered manually. How do I get the CUSIP for those, or is it not an issue?

@kevin. I think the easiest thing to do is after changing SCZ to be EFA, just update the transactions with correct fund. You don't need to re-enter the transactions.

If you don't have a CUSIP for a security, it means that it is not connected with an online security with the financial institution. They can be manual funds, or funds that have been closed. Not having a CUSIP in these situations is not an issue.

If these securities are strictly manual and are never updated online, they will never have a CUSIP. If they ever do get matched with an online security, the CUSIP will be populated. You cannot manually enter, or change a CUSIP.

Another common circumstance I have seen, a security does not show in the drop down box because the Security Type is set as Market Index rather than Stock, Mutual Fund, or some other type. Market Index is not intended for actual securities that can be traded.

The CUSIP gets assigned to a security ONLY by getting it matched to a security associated with a download from a brokerage account. The user can make the CUSIP go away by unchecking the 'Matched with" box but cannot assign the CUSIP.
