Vanguard balance shows zero?

For the last 2-3 months I keep getting alternating days where Vanguard either shows the full proper balance or it shows no balance. Is anyone else seeing this? My portfolio graph looks like a saw blade and it affects the data in other charting tools in Quicken.

I had a similar problem with one of my accounts a year or two ago (I think it was my Vanguard IRA but can't recall for sure now). The problem turned out to be with the security prices, not with the account itself.

Go to the Securities window, double-click the mutual fund that's in your Vanguard account, click on the Price History tab, and look at the Closing Price column. If you see zeroes in that column, that's the source of your problem.

I have the same issue and posted here (https://community.quicken.com/discussion/7962307/vanguard-accounts-download-security-closing-prices-as-0-on-some-but-not-all-days#latest).

The issue does appear to be that Quicken is downloading security prices from Vanguard as $0 (or Vanguard is passing those $0 prices to Quicken; it's not clear where the issue is originating). I haven't found way to fix this permanently. Periodically Vanguard/Quicken will populate my account with the correct security prices and I can then manually delete the $0's, but that doesn't seem to be a good long term solution.

I keep hoping an update to Quicken will fix the issue. It seems like it should be an easy fix, but I can't figure out who to ask to fix — Quicken or Vanguard.

Ah. If I look at security detail the Avg Price Per Share is accurate so Quicken is getting the price but it's not properly applied to price in the dashboard. Very annoying. Could be either Vanguard or Quicken but I agree it is something that should be easily fixed.

@BrotherSabrent, I didn't have average price per share included in any of the reports I use but when I added it to a report, it does show the average price per share. I believe the average price per share metric is the cost basis for the shares (i.e., the average price you paid per share rather than an average price per share based on current prices).

When I look at the individual securities, I see something like the attached picture. There are closing prices for most days, but the downloaded prices (including the closing price used to measure the value of the account) are all $0 on 5/12/2025. Since the downloaded closing prices are $0 for all of the securities in the Vanguard account, the account value ends up being $0.
