I am a 92 year old user who has been using Quicken since it's original Dos version. BUT I have never been good at using it at all. Now the thing I have always dreaded, happened. My hard drive failed and the data was not recoverable from it. I have now installed Quicken, but my data is in the sky. How do I get it?

If you had automatic backup enabled (which is the default condition), and didn't change the default file path, it's probably online on Onedrive. Look in C:\Users\[your user name]\OneDrive\Documents\Quicken\BACKUP for the most recent file.

@phtyree whether or not your Quicken data file can be retrieved or restored depends on how and where your data file was backed up. Since data is not recoverable from your hard drive, you will not be able to recover your backups from that drive as well. Also unfortunately, if you used Mobile & Web, your data still might be accessible on the Quicken Cloud, but it cannot be restored or recovered from the Quicken Cloud.

If you backed up your data file to an external or flash drive, you would be able to restore it from there.

Or, if you backed up your Quicken data file with Quicken Online Backup, or to any cloud storage service such as OneDrive, DropBox, Google Drive, or iDrive, you would be able to retrieve or restore your Quicken data file from there.

@CaliQkn is it not possible to download from Quicken web? Or possibly print to PDF?

@mshiggins thank you for asking the question. I haven't used Quicken on the Web for about a year now. But indeed it looks like you can now download transactions from Quicken Web to a CSV file.

It is not exactly like restoring a backup, but at least you have the ability to retrieve transactions, not just view them.

@phtyree do you use Quicken on the Web? It is where you use your web browser to access your Quicken accounts and transactions.
