Quicken Investment Account Shares report reconciliation error

I have an IRA Brokerage Account with Vanguard. Now, whenever Quicken goes to reconcile the shares in this account, it tells me that I have 1618 excess shares in Vanguard Megacap ETF (MGV) and 1618 too few shares in Vanguard Money Market Reserves (MMR).

On 3/24/25 I purchased 1618 shares in MGV. I paid for these shares with money from my Settlement account. My settlement account is Vanguard Federal Money Market (VMFXX). It has been 5 years since I have had any money in MMR in any of my accounts.

3/24/25 was during the period when Quicken was not connecting properly with Vanguard (I am on Quicken Deluxe for Windows using Direct Connect) and so I downloaded some QFX files from Vanguard to achieve updates.

Vanguard shows that I made the buy transaction on 3/24/25 and that I have 1618 shares of MGV from that transation. It does not show now or in recent past any transactions to MMR.

In my Securities list, both MGV and MMR are entered properly.

I have validated and super validated my account, and no errors of consequence are present – certainly nothing in remotely related to this issue.

I have tried deleting the transaction. If I reconcile the shares at this point, it shows nothing about MGV but that I have 1618 shares of MMR in my Vanguard account but not in Quicken. When I re-enter the MGV transaction, I am right back where I started.

I am stumped.

@Dave Brandman when did this out of balance condition start? The transaction you refer to happened over two months ago. This out-of-balance condition could be a result of another event that happened recently. Did you or do you have any placeholder transactions in the account? They could be hidden. To unhide them, go to Edit→Preferences→Investments, and check "Show hidden transactions".
