Need two merge two savings account registers

One of the savings accounts that I have linked in quicken suddenly stopped being able to get transactions from my bank. This was strange because the checking account and a second savings account in that same bank updated without any issues.

Anyway, after trying over a couple of days, I was finally able to reconnect to that to that account. However, quicken created a NEW account register for it with a slightly different name. But the transactions in the new account register only go back for one year. So I need to merge all the transactions from the old register to the new one, with the exception of the transactions that do exist in the new register.

I have read several explanations of how to move transactions from one register to another, but every time I do this, the amount shown as the balance is completely wrong, and so I keep having to revert to my backup.

I need some step by step help on this.

@dfkurz the beginning balance transaction for the new account needs to be deleted, otherwise your account will be off by that amount.

Also, run transaction reports for the new and old accounts, and export them to Excel if you can. They will give you something to reconcile back to if the new account is out of balance.

I did delete the beginning balance. It was still off bty a large amount

@dfkurz - it could be that some of the transactions are duplicated, or missing, depending on what transaction range was moved over to the new account. That is why the transaction reports will help in finding any duplicate transactions and any transactions that are missing.

Also, before you move the transactions over to the new account, verify that both accounts are in balance.
