Merrill security rename issue

Since the new connection method started I have a problem I don't know how to solve. Quicken Classic Windows wants to rename securities to the wrong name and continues to complain that Quicken holdings don't match Merrill's. For example, I own both AT&T (T) and AT&T PRC (TPRC). Quicken complains about holding mismatch and wants to rename TPRC to AT&T, which would result in a duplicate name. This is happening to multiple preferred securities I own. See attachment.

Anyone have a solution?

I have been a user since the DOS days!

    As I would approach this:

    • Make sure you have both the common and the preferred securities existing in the Quicken file. The two names must be unique but do not need to match identically with the brokerage supplied names.
    • If you expect Quicken to download prices from their third-party data supplier, make sure the preferred security has the ticker recognized by that supplier. That may not be the same ticker your brokerage uses. It can in some cases be difficult to determine. It appears to me that the AT&T C preferred ticker Quicken might want is T-C. LMT might be LMT.DY or LMT.DG. If you are okay with only brokerage supplied prices, the ticker should not be an issue.
    • To break from the current mismatch, through he security details for both the common and the preferred security, uncheck the box that the security is Matched with an online security. Matching with an online security assigns a CUSIP to the Quicken security that has to come from the brokerage download.
    • With those unmatched, from the account transaction list, Action gear upper right, choose the Reconcile Shares selection. That should then allow you to properly match what the brokerage has sent to your common and preferred securities.

    Hope this helps
