Return of capital entry does not reduce cost basis of a stock

Question

I have entered return of capital for a stock, and the cost basis was not reduced. I have the latest version of Quicken, Version 8.2.1 (Build 802.57282.100), using macOS 15.6. I noticed an earlier post on July 5 regarding the same issue with no answer provided.

Thanks for the suggestions to resolve the issue.  As said, Quicken Mac does not have the file repair options, and I verified that the security name and symbol match.

I finally resolved the issue in an inelegant manner by removing and adding shares with the correct basis.  Unfortunately, this stock is now a short term holding with an average price per share and no individual purchases.  However, this stock will be held for the long term, and the current cost basis is correct as well as the cash balance.

Hopefully, Quicken will look into this issue.

@Jeff76 Quicken Mac does not have those file repair options.

@counter Did you check to make sure the security name/symbol is a match? Quicken will let you enter a return of capital transaction for an investment you don't own without complaint and will add the cash back to your account, but if the assets aren't a match it won't actually reduce your cost basis.

@counter have you tried the validate and repair your quicken file feature?  You have options to validate files, rebuild investments lots and correct investing history.
